Today's Gospel

Jn 8:51-59

Jesus said to the Jews:

“Amen, amen, I say to you,

whoever keeps my word will never see death.”

So the Jews said to him,

“Now we are sure that you are possessed.

Abraham died, as did the prophets, yet you say,

‘Whoever keeps my word will never taste death.’

Are you greater than our father Abraham, who died?

Or the prophets, who died?

Who do you make yourself out to be?”

Jesus answered, “If I glorify myself, my glory is worth nothing;

but it is my Father who glorifies me,

of whom you say, ‘He is our God.’

You do not know him, but I know him.

And if I should say that I do not know him,

I would be like you a liar.

But I do know him and I keep his word.

Abraham your father rejoiced to see my day;

he saw it and was glad.”

So the Jews said to him,

“You are not yet fifty years old and you have seen Abraham?”

Jesus said to them, “Amen, amen, I say to you,

before Abraham came to be, I AM.”

So they picked up stones to throw at him;

but Jesus hid and went out of the temple area.

Today's Reflection

Powers_FINAL New CREST_2018 _2_.png

Today's reflection from Ms. Trish Morrison, an alumna of Powers Catholic High School class of 1977.

In today’s Gospel, the Jews were questioning Jesus’ existence by asking how a human could possibly make himself out to be God. I am sure all of us have questioned that at some point in our faith formation. The Gospel reading today reminds me of Mother Teresa’s teachings: “Preach the Gospel, if necessary, use words.”

Actions tell everything. Love in action is such a powerful tool. If we are going to “talk the talk,” we must “walk the walk.” The Word of God must be deeply implanted in me, and I should be proud of who I am—A child of God! What can I do today-even right now-in words AND actions to live out the true glory of God’s name?

Dear Lord,

I humbly ask You to continue to show me the way to live out your pure and unconditional love. Help me to see the true image of your Divine love and live it out, even if there are others who condemn me for my beliefs.

I also ask You to guide me from the temptation of judging others by giving me clarity so I can see where my life falls short of what I profess. I ask all of this in Jesus’ name, who is God the Father.

In the name of the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. Amen
