Family Summer Fun Activities!!
Juneteenth is a recognized federal holiday. It’s a bitter-sweet celebration, on the bitter side we recognize that we so often have dealt with the inequity that exist for our culture of getting access to human rights and on the sweet side as we use our power of advocacy and information we create opportunities for our families to live, thrive in home, community and school.
Let’s enjoy a summer that is full of fun, memories, accomplishments. Let’s pursue the opportunities of access and equity for our families.
My hope is that our children & adults, no matter what the difference, will have equitable opportunities to live their best lives through accessing services and programs. Let’s keep asking the right questions so we can get some answers. I encourage you this summer to take advantage of attending an amusement park. After purchasing your ticket, guest services will provide families with a disability pass that allows you to skip the lines which gives you more time to enjoy your family.

Celebrate Juneteenth, Monday, June 19
Juneteenth was officially signed a federal holiday by President Joe Biden in 2021. The holiday has been celebrated since 1865 and originated in Galveston, Texas.
It is a day that celebrates the end of slavery and the freedom of enslaved Black Americans in Galveston, Texas two months after Robert E. Lee surrendered and almost two and a half years after President Abraham Lincoln signed the Emancipation Proclamation in 1863.
It is the country's oldest national celebration commemorating the end of slavery.
The goal of Juneteenth is to celebrate Black lives, amplify Black voices, and showcase the resilience of Black people.

The Early Start Family Resource Network provides a coordinated network of parent-to-parent support throughout Riverside and San Bernardino Counties in California. The ESFRN provides supportive services which include education, resources, and training to families with children who are at risk for or are experiencing delays or disabilities. We believe the family plays the central role in all aspects of the decision-making process by utilizing their strengths and engaging in parent/professional collaboration. The ESFRN assists families with system navigation and linking families with appropriate services in their communities. | |

The Los Angeles County African American Infant and Maternal Mortality (AAIMM) Initiative is a countywide coalition dedicated to addressing the disproportionately high rates of Black infant and maternal deaths and ensuring healthy and joyous births for Black families in L.A. County. Led by the L.A. Department of Public Health (DPH) in partnership with First 5 LA, AAIMM was launched in 2018 as part of DPH’s 5-Year Plan to address the Black-White infant mortality gap in L.A. County.

Paid Survey - Pasadena Public Health Department
You are invited to participate in a survey for the Pasadena Public Health Department – Maternal Child and Adolescent Health (MCAH) Cal-InSPIRE Program. The purpose of this survey is to receive feedback on the needs, strengths, opportunities, and barriers of families caring for children with special health care needs. We deeply value your feedback, and your responses will help us design a program that best serves children and youth with special health care needs.
In order to be eligible for a $100 Target gift card, you must meet all eligibility requirements:
- Complete the survey by June 15, 2023.
- Identify as a parent/caregiver of a child or youth (ages 0-22) with a special health care need or disability.
- Child or children must primarily live OR attend school in the greater Pasadena area (Altadena, Pasadena, or Sierra Madre).
- You must provide contact information at the end of the survey.
- Only one submission per family is allowed.

The first 50 respondents are eligible to receive a $100 Target gift card. Gift cards will be available in June and can be picked up at the Pasadena Public Health Department at 1845 N. Fair Oaks Ave.
