Food Bank Sunday is July 7

The first Sunday of the month is coming up and that means we'll collect non-perishable food items for St. Francis Center. Please place your donations in the blue bin. Next month's donations will go to HELP of Beaufort.

Stephen Ministry info sessions July 14 & 28

As we move towards fall and our first training for Stephen Ministers, I’ll be offering a couple of information sessions. I’ll answer questions, explain the training process, and have applications for the training available. Drop me an email at laughneyz@centurylink.net if you have questions before we gather. All are invited to attend to learn more. One session will be right after church on Sun., July 14, and the second will be right after church on Sun., July 28.

Music Notes

In the 1970’s as I was beginning my career as a public school music teacher, there was a vigorous campaign to change our National Anthem. The reason was simple. “The Star Spangled Banner” is very difficult to sing. The top contender to replace the anthem was “America the Beautiful.” The lyrics by Katherine Lee Bates evoke a sense of grandeur and pride. The opening line begins with vivid imagery we know so well after a lifetime of singing this beautiful patriotic hymn. Even with its rich harmonies and uplifting melody (which is very easy to sing), “America the Beautiful” is not the anthem we use most often to raise our patriotic voices.Karen Harmon, Music Director

The next opportunity for baptism will be July 15. Contact Fr. Roy at stmarkscrector@gmail.com or 843-379-1020 if interested in baptism for an adult or a child.

Join Women of Grace on July 18

Women of Grace, St. Mark's Women's Group, will meet in the church on Thurs, July 18, at noon. Senior Warden Cheri Thayer will discuss the future of St Mark’s. Bring your lunch and join us for an interesting meeting. All women of St. Mark's are included in Women of Grace.

What? Not already?

Believe it or not, school starts back on August 7. Port Royal Elementary, a Title I school, is one of our ministry partners. We invite you to help St. Mark’s support PRES students by purchasing school supplies (amounts large or small) from the list attached HERE. Copies of the list are also available on the table in the narthex at church. Thank you.

Changes in O&M Committee

Anne Errington and Jim Turk have resigned from the Outreach and Mission Team. Anne is an original member, and we are grateful for her wisdom and many years of service. Jim is busy serving on both the vestry and the search committee. His sage advice will be missed. We welcome our two new members, Wendy Moore and John Teter. Both have been active members of their previous churches and were vestry members.
