Big Things Happened in 2011
Winter Street continues to see success in our Data Center/Mission Critical Sector
Goodbye Phoenix, Hello Salt Lake City!
Just as the design work for eBay's Project Mercury Modular Data Center in Phoenix, Arizona winds down eBay awards team Winter Street Architects and AHA Consulting Engineers with a new modular data center project in Salt Lake City, Utah.
Higher education sector had a strong year in 2011.
A busy year for some Massachusetts Campuses
Harvard Medical School
Harvard med school professors can take advantage of their multi-purpose teaching environments. Winter Street's prototype space dubbed "Classroom of the Future" is now complete and fully operable. The highly flexible space features the integration of both the latest in classroom and audio visual technologies and medical simulation technology.
Winter Street's design team has been diligently working with Wyss Institute for Biologically Inspired Engineering on a23,000 square foot expansion project. Upon completion, the space will accommodate Wyss's rapidly growing research facility within the Center for Life Science Building (CLSB) in Boston.
UMass Lowell
UMass Lowell students make themselves at home in the recently opened O'Leary Learning Commons. Winter Street transformed the first floor of this 40 year old Library space into a lively hub for student research and learning.
Winter Street assisted the University with envisioning and planning for the next generation Campus Police Department.
The Campus Police Department, along with UCaps, Parking & Transportation, and other student services moved into their freshly renovated administrative space at University Crossing this past summer.
Cumnock Auditorium received new finish upgrades and a civil engineering lab is well into construction as the year ends.
Salem State University
Things are shaping up for University's Athletics Department. The renovation of the Sport and Movement Science Department's classroom is now complete, and final touches are being made to two new state-of-the art women's lockers rooms on campus.
Salem State's Sullivan Building Theater Classroom was also upgraded. The theater was abated, "gutted," and then renovated.
Our Corporate Sector is helping Companies expand, evolve and re-tool for the future.
Against a tight 10 week construction schedule, Winter Street worked with Hitachi to complete the fit out of the company's east coast expansion in Waltham, MA. The forward thinking design solution delivered open and collaborative office space for 185 employees and a small data center.
2011 saw the successful completion of the design and construction of a multi-phase project for Medtronic. The project included the gut renovation of office, research environments and a state-of-the-art clean manufacturing facility for their U.S. Cardiac and Vascular Group in Danvers, MA.
Municipal/Public Safety
WSA continues to work with Mass Development, assisting with adaptive re-use studies including one for the Worcester County Courthouse. Our ongoing work for Winchester public safety building begins to wrap up, while the Devens Regional Dispatch Center begins the design development phase.
Portsmouth New Hampshire's Fire Station II becomes the first fire station in the state to receive a Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design (LEED) certification.
