happy holidays

No matter what holiday you celebrate, we'd like to wish you and your family a safe and happy Holiday Season, and a peaceful and prosperous New Year.

As 2022 comes to a close, we want to share some of the stories of impact over the past year, as well as highlight some of the amazing things to come in 2023.

We are grateful to those who enable us to do what we do, being able to help people realize their philanthropic goals each and every year. In a world that seems to be in constant turmoil, we are honoured and humbled to be entrusted to run with your ideas and initiatives bringing about positive change for the social issues you care about.

We wish all of our valued clients, donors, and community partners the best of health and happiness for the upcoming year. Enjoy the holiday season, in whatever way you celebrate, and we look forward to working with you in the New Year.

Looking Forward

Moving into 2023, we will continue to work with our clients and donors to make waves on the philanthropy front. Social Impact Labs

Social Impact Labs are where an agile design approach meets philanthropy. We bring together multidisciplinary teams to truly understand and tackle complex social issues. With this approach the experts on an issue can tackle problems in a collaborative manner rather than having to compete for limited resources. In this model we can incorporate iterative changes to ensure both a social and financial return for your investments.

In 2022 Karma & Cents Hosted 2 social impact labs: Converge Mental Health and the Silver Gummy Gender Based Violence.

10 Years of Getting Sh*t Done

Place2Give celebrated 10 years of getting sh*t done this year! To commemorate we featured a series of impact stories celebrating the impact our donors are having in their communities. We featured impact stories on men’s mental health, women’s homelessness, diversity and inclusion, and corporate citizenship.

Your clients may be asking you more questions as the end of the year approaches.

Philanthropy comes up often in tax planning conversations, but is it always about taxes? This chart answers some common questions and directs you where to go for additional information.

Like you, we work with entrepreneurial families. Sometimes there are questions about when it is better to donate from the family business, and when it is better to donate personally. This short document explains the pro’s and con’s of these two types of contributions.

There are several ways your clients can support charities. We have broken down the options into a digestible comparison chart to help you guide the philanthropy conversation.

Every client and every situation is unique. Reach out to us today to help answer any questions you have about the advantages of incorporating philanthropic planning into financial planning, and how both you, and your clients, can benefit.

Resources for Families

Created for Sick Kids, Today’s Parent (Nov 24, 2022) recently highlighted five ways to teach your kids about philanthropy, including:

  • Let your kids choose the cause.
  • Figure out the best way to help.
  • Involve your kids from start to finish.
  • Give philanthropic gifts for the holidays.
  • Model giving behavior.

Over the holidays, consider some of our family philanthropy activities that you can do with your family. Having family together over the holidays is a good time to volunteer or contribute back to your community and giving back together can create memories that will last a lifetime.

In a recent Place2Give blog post we highlighted the 4 T’s of philanthropy. When it comes to giving, be sure to teach your kids about all four and all of the ways they can give back that don’t involve money.
