I rarely send out donation asks outside of mentioning our Fall and Spring Campaigns in our quarterly newsletter. I follow this guideline to make sure that you're getting information on our center, our community, events, programs and services above all else. After all, that's why you signed up, right?
But tomorrow is Giving Tuesday - A national day set aside for generosity - to gear up for Holiday gift giving by thinking first, of our neighbors, our communities and organizations that help spread resources, tools, services, equipment, programs and other assistance, to those that need it most.
Giving Tuesday is a great time to support what matters to you - and the possibilities and valuable causes are endless! To help cut through the busyness and noise that can often overtake this season, I am making a quiet, soft, direct appeal to those in our communities that we KNOW care about the rights and needs of people with disabilities - most importantly, the right to live independently in the community and housing of their choice.
Even decades into the establishment of the Americans with Disabilities Act, people with disabilities still face barriers to their right to independent living. Barriers can include physical, attitudinal, systemic and more. It's our privilege here at Independence, Inc. to assist our consumers and our communities in removing these barriers for every person, regardless of disability, to ensure equal opportunity to education, employment, recreation, housing, socialization, transportation and more.
With our programs and services, we provide advocacy, peer support, durable medical equipment, assistive technology, housing and employment assistance, transportation, reasonable accommodation assistance, help and guidance with social security and disability applications, home modifications and so much more.
If you haven't considered giving to our organization before, today is a great opportunity to do so!
