Did you know that there is a natural way to lessen your acute or chronic pain with no down time? | |
Try the Light Froce class IV Deep Tissue Laser for accelerated healing and pain control
For the month of July One. is offering a free laser trial session for new clients.
Authors have demonstrated that the more recently developed deep tissue laser has a positive response on cell membranes, mitochondria and damaged neurologic structures. Lasers of low intensity initiate analgesic, anti-inflammatory and biostimulatory effects, resulting in an increase in local microcirculation and increased healing. Increasing microcirculation induces an essential function in the tissue repair process and in pain control.

NYT: A Peek Inside the Brains of 'Super-Agers'
By Dana G. Smith
April 29, 2024
Overall, Dr. Strange said, there were a lot of similarities between the super-agers and the regular agers. “There are a lot of things that are not particularly striking about them,” he said. And, he added, “we see some surprising omissions, things that you would expect to be associated with super-agers that weren’t really there.” For example, there were no differences between the groups in terms of their diets, the amount of sleep they got, their professional backgrounds or their alcohol and tobacco use.
“In an ideal world, you’d find out that, like, all the super-agers, you know, ate six tomatoes every day and that was the key,” said Tessa Harrison, an assistant project scientist at the University of California, Berkeley, who collaborated with Dr. Rogalski on the first Chicago super-ager study.
The behaviors of some of the Chicago super-agers were similarly a surprise. Some exercised regularly, but some never had; some stuck to a Mediterranean diet, others subsisted off TV dinners; and a few of them still smoked cigarettes.
However, one consistency among the group was that they tended to have strong social relationships, Dr. Rogalski said.

The Best Cure For Chronic Pain? It's Not What You Think
While surgery and pain medications can have impact, it turns out that regular physical activity is the most potent and least invasive pain reliever available
By Meg Lambrych | February 6, 2024
While surgery and pain medications can improve your health and longevity, it turns out that regular physical activity is the most potent and least invasive pain reliever available.
Regular exercise, such as cardio or strength training, can reduce chronic pain symptoms in two ways. First, it releases special chemicals called beta-endorphins, which act as natural opioids in the body. These endorphins not only produce that happy post-exercise haze, but they treat pain directly by acting like morphine on affected pain receptors.
Regular exercise is an excellent way to manage chronic pain and reduce other associated symptoms such as low mood and energy. Strength training, in particular, releases the most endorphins and is crucial for people over 60.

Potential Harm of Microplastics to Cardiovascular and Brain Health
Microplastics have, for several decades, invaded our environment and threaten the health of all living organisms on the planet, including humans.
By Jingduan Yang

Updated:
6/11/2024
Microplastic pollution is widespread, presenting significant health hazards. A study published in March revealed that microplastics increase the risk of cardiovascular disease and stroke by more than four times. How can we prevent and address the health threats posed by microplastics?
Microplastics come from a variety of plastic products, including personal care items like exfoliating skin products and toothpaste containing plastic microbeads. Additionally, synthetic fibers in clothing also contribute to microplastic pollution. The ubiquitousness of microplastics in our air, water, food, and everyday items makes avoiding them impossible.
Microplastics affect human health in three primary ways:
-
Microplastics can trigger chronic inflammation. Research indicates that microplastics mainly cause harm to health by inducing inflammation and disrupting the immune system. Chronic inflammation can damage blood vessel linings and cell membranes, predisposing individuals to various chronic diseases.
-
Microplastics and the chemicals they degrade into can cause oxidative stress in our bodies. One study found that microplastics induce oxidative stress in tissues, inhibit enzyme activities, and promote lipid peroxidation. Oxidative stress is a self-defense mechanism in our bodies. While normally not problematic, excessive oxidative stress can lead to an overproduction of free radicals, which can damage our body’s cells and tissues, thereby increasing the risk of various diseases.
-
Microplastics can also adsorb other toxic chemicals, such as heavy metals, causing further harm to the body.
In March, The New England Journal of Medicine published a study in which researchers examined 304 patients who had plaque in their carotid arteries. Although these patients had not experienced any symptoms, they underwent surgery to remove the plaque, as it is akin to a time bomb that can detach at any moment, leading to cardiovascular diseases such as heart attacks and strokes.
After analyzing the carotid artery plaques in all patients, the researchers detected polyethylene in the plaques of 150 patients and polyvinyl chloride in the plaques of 31 patients. In other words, microplastics were found in the carotid artery plaques of 181 out of 304 patients.
Nutrients for Detoxification
There is currently no medication or health product that can completely remove microplastics from the body. However, we can consider the reasonable use of the following types of health products to mitigate the effects of microplastics on the body.
- Antioxidants: Whether we get them through food or supplements, vitamins A, C, and E, and glutathione all act as antioxidants to neutralize free radicals and protect our cells.
- Omega-3: Omega-3 fatty acids play a vital role in supporting the health of cell membranes by maintaining their structure and function.
- Probiotics: Probiotics can support the digestive and detoxification functions of our gastrointestinal system.
-
Herbal extracts: Extracts of certain herbs, such as turmeric, dandelion, and milk thistle can contribute to liver detoxification.
- Green algae and spirulina: Both are rich in chlorophyll and antioxidants, which can help eliminate heavy metals and other toxins from the body, thus aiding in detoxification.
-
N-acetylcysteine (NAC): NAC serves as a precursor to glutathione. Glutathione is vulnerable to degradation during absorption. Supplementing with NAC to increase glutathione levels in our body can promote antioxidant and anti-inflammatory effects.
- Activated charcoal: In some cases, activated charcoal can act as a detoxifier in the intestines.
- Vitamin D: Vitamin D regulates cellular functions and provides significant support to the immune system, thereby enhancing the body’s defense against various environmental factors.

We LOVE this shop, consider buying from this wonderful local business on MD Ave and help them to keep their doors open!
Mango & Main
SHOP UPDATE: Part 2/3: I’ve spent the last 6 months agonizing over the decision of whether or not to renew my shop lease. The reality is that my rent is going up, and sales and foot traffic are going down… and as the kids say these days: The math is not mathing.
We’re almost constantly in debt and just hanging on for dear life throughout most of the year while we eagerly await the holiday season and shoppers in downtown Annapolis. We have a “break even” sales number that we need to reach every month just to pay the rent, payroll, taxes, etc… and we used to hit that easily… but haven’t been able to in quite some time.
So I’m constantly thinking, “Am I crazy to keep trying?” “Do people even want to shop this way any more (in-person, small stores, pay for shipping)? Or is everything going the way of Amazon and it’s better to jump ship while I can?”
But…
I’m not ready to give up. My little shop is not just about me, or you, or the downtown Annapolis community…
At the heart of this business are the many (thousands!) of people who make the things that we sell here. I opened this shop to create a marketplace for THEM & create a connection between our resources and people across the globe who are equally deserving of opportunity and hope.
I want to keep going!!
Thankfully I was able to get a much shorter lease, so that took (some of) the scariness out of making a huge financial decision. I’m committed to staying here on Maryland Avenue for another 18 months!!
I’m hopeful that things will improve and we can stay for even longer, but it feels good to take this tiny step forward. Will you help us keep moving forward too??
In part 3 tomorrow, I’ll get down to some transparent specifics on what we need in order to stay in business, and provide our loyal friends and supporters simple and easy ways to help (not all of them involve spending $)!
