Bug of the Month
Did you know that bacteria account for 95% of the microorganisms in wastewater? One group of bacteria you can find at the Ventura Water Reclamation Facility is facultative bacteria. This organism absorbs organic material and releases gases like methane.

At the Ventura Water Reclamation Facility, Ventura Water uses methane to generate power and help meet our electrical needs. You could say this organism helps us operate our plant in more ways than one! As a reminder, these microbes are sensitive and can be impacted when the wrong things are sent down the drain. To keep our treatment system running smoothly, please think before you flush!
