U.S. Chamber Launches Growth and Opportunity Imperative
To reinvigorate America’s economic dynamism and improve the lives of all Americans, the Chamber launched the Growth and Opportunity Imperative, calling on candidates and elected officials to achieve at least 3% annual real economic growth over the next decade—a 50% increase over current projections. This target should serve as a litmus test for evaluating policy solutions to our nation’s most pressing challenges.
‌
“Many Americans do not feel like the current economy is working for them. To create the future we want, and the next generation deserves, we need to get back to growth,” U.S. Chamber President and CEO Suzanne P. Clark wrote in a July 4 op-ed for USA TODAY. “We need our elected officials to look beyond the next election and set targeted priorities for our collective future. Economic growth is not a red issue or a blue issue. It’s a red, white, and blue imperative.”
Why it matters: Slowing economic growth is one of the foremost challenges facing America today, yet the discussion on how to fix the problem has been noticeably absent from recent policy debates, including in the recent presidential debate. Urgent action is required to reverse the economic slowdown and safeguard the American Dream.
‌
Our take: We will continue working toward policies that support:
A larger and more skilled workforce.
Investments in innovation and cutting-edge technology.
The economy of the future, rather than trying to recreate one of the past.
‌
By placing growth back at the center of the national agenda, we can grow our collective future and improve living standards in countless communities nationwide.
‌
We stand ready to partner with everyone working to deliver on the promise of the American Dream. Click here to learn more. Download Memo
