Let's Build.

For decades, Habitat for Humanity of Forsyth County has stood as a beacon of hope in our community, tirelessly working to address the affordable housing crisis impacting so many families in Forsyth County. The pandemic underscored the resilience of our community, the adaptability of our mission, and the unwavering commitment from supporters like you. Now, more than ever, we need your support to keep building strong families and communities.

Over 38 years and 425 new homes built, we’ve witnessed the incredible things that can happen when people come together for a shared purpose, and we invite you to be a part of that magic. Let’s get building.

Supporting Habitat Forsyth isn't just about providing shelter. It's about fostering stability, empowerment, and opportunity. It's about creating neighborhoods where families can thrive, children can learn, and dreams can be realized. We believe in the potential of every family, and we know that together, we can pave the way for a brighter future for everyone in Forsyth County.

Let's harness that energy that has always set Habitat Forsyth apart. Let’s Build Homes, Communities and Hope, together.

  2. Donate: Whether it's monetary, goods for our ReStores, or land for future homes, your contributions go directly to helping families build and buy their own homes.
  3. Spread the Word: Tell your friends, family, and coworkers about Habitat Forsyth's work. Raise awareness about the affordable housing crisis and our mission to combat it.
  4. Partner with Us: If you're a business owner, consider a team-building day, sponsorships, or in-kind donations. Together, we can amplify our impact.

Overcoming Obstacles to Become a Habitat Homeowner

New Habitat homeowner Tyrone (Tony) is grateful for Habitat’s homeownership program.

In 2008, after decades of battling drug and alcohol abuse, Tony was ready to make a change and entered recovery through the Winston-Salem Rescue Mission, a non-profit aimed to bring hope and healing to struggling residents around the Winston-Salem area. During his recovery, he earned his G.E.D. at Forsyth Tech, where he later gained experience in construction and maintenance.

Despite his steady work and rental history, Tony was unsuccessful twice in qualifying for a traditional mortgage. In 2022, however, he applied and was accepted into Habitat's homeownership program.

He has loved spending time building his home and plans to continue volunteering for Habitat Forsyth. “I’m doing what God has asked me to do,” Tony shared, “making people smile and continuing to be me. People who volunteer or give money to Habitat are helping somebody help themselves. They are putting happiness in someone’s life. Habitat is designed to help you better yourself. I will be for Habitat for the rest of my life.”

Housing Crisis:

Right Here, Right Now

The housing crisis is more than just numbers on paper; it's a heart-wrenching reality that's impacting the very fabric of our community. It's a crisis that's hitting hardest at the most vulnerable among us, the low-to-moderate income families who are struggling to make ends meet.

In Forsyth County, the numbers tell a stark story:

📈 Our population has surged by 27% since 2000, ballooning by 82,000 to reach 389,157 in 2022. The demand for housing has never been higher.

💰 Rental prices have gone through the roof, soaring from an average of $675 in 2010 to a staggering $1,066 per month in 2023. Finding an affordable place to live is becoming an impossible dream.

💸 Meanwhile, housing costs across the US have skyrocketed, outpacing income growth. Housing expenses have surged by a staggering 74% from 2010 to 2022, while median household income has inched up by a mere 15% during the same period.

🛠️ Even the dream of building a Habitat Forsyth Home has become more challenging. Construction costs have spiked by a daunting 35% since the onset of the pandemic in 2020.

But amidst these daunting statistics, there's a glimmer of hope: Habitat Forsyth. We don't just provide homes; we restore dignity, nurture community bonds, and give individuals and neighborhoods a platform to rise above their circumstances.

With unity, compassion, and unwavering perseverance, we can and will create a world where everyone has a safe, affordable place to call home. It's a vision worth fighting for, and together, we can turn it into a reality.

Join us in our mission to build not just houses, but futures filled with promise and hope. Together, we can rewrite the story of our community and ensure that every family has a place they can truly call home.
