Why does this car matter?
1951 Allard K2
Purchased new in August 1951 by Max Hess, owner of Hess's department store and titled in the name of his facilities manager, Lawrence Luckenbach. Luckenbach drove the car sparingly, totally 5,500 miles by the time the car was parked in a barn some time after 1965.
Luckenbach died without ever having driven the car again and his family kept the car in the barn until May 1992. The car was then purchased by Allentown collector Bernard Berman. By today's standards, the car may have been retained in preserved condition but in the 1990's a car in this level of disrepair automatically got restored.
