Chesterfield Breaks Ground on New
West Area Middle School
|
|
County and school leaders came together with the community last week to break ground on the new West Area Middle School – Chesterfield’s first three-story school and one that will increase the county’s middle school capacity by 1,800 seats, providing much-needed relief for Tomahawk Creek Middle and accommodating future growth in the western Route 360 corridor.
The school's permanent name will be chosen before it opens to students in August 2025.
During the groundbreaking ceremony, Board of Supervisors Chair Kevin P. Carroll noted that collaboration between the Board of Supervisors and School Board enabled Chesterfield to begin work on the new middle school a year earlier than expected.

to Perkinson Center on Sept. 15
|
|
New York City composer, artist, and singer Matt Butler will put on his one-man play/concert "Reckless Son" at Chester's Perkinson Center for the Arts and Education on Friday, Sept. 15 at 7 p.m.
The production is based in part on Butler's experiences from visiting the Chesterfield County Jail's HARP program.
It's a collection of music, monologues, personal history and lessons learned from those behind bars. Filled with Americana songs influenced by Woody Guthrie, Townes Van Zandt, and other troubadours, "Reckless Son" is more than a show. It's a calling.
A portion of the proceeds from ticket sales will go to HARP RVA, a nonprofit that continues to help those in our community who are suffering with addiction or in recovery.
