YMCA: Power of Trades

The YMCA Power of Trades is excited to announce we are starting in-takes for Cohort 4 which runs January 8th to February 2nd.  YMCA – POWER OF TRADES streams newcomers into Skilled Trades in Ontario.

Training is in person for the full 4 weeks, and classes are 9 AM to 4 PM, Monday to Friday. We do not provide technical training but rather focus on the Skilled Trades in Ontario, and how to navigate the system, which can be confusing. We also focus on Resume writing, job search strategies, goal setting as well as we address all the laws that Ontario employers and employees have to follow in the workplace.

The last two weeks we focus on certifications to ensure the client is work-ready: Standard First Aid, Service Excellence. Health and Safety, WHMIS and working at heights if required. After the four weeks of training, we work with each client to secure a placement or job.

The Power of Trades program is a free pre-employment program for newcomers interested in a career in the skilled trades.

There are 144 skilled trades in Ontario including: IT trades, educational assistant, hair stylist, arborist, electrician, roofer... and more!

This program includes:

  • Four weeks of in-class training
  • First Aid, WHMIS, Working at Heights, Service Excellence and more
