Vinyl vs. Fiberglass Windows

When you're considering window options for your next project, you may use vinyl as a price efficient solution, but don't rule out fiberglass as a suitable alternative, especially when dark colors are being specified.

Vinyl is made from thermoplastic materials which can softened during a heating process and hardened during a cooling process. This makes the products easy to work with when forming a shape, but once the shape is formed, you really don't want it to move again. The biggest draw back to a vinyl window is the movement that cycles through the product as seasons and temperatures change. This movement will also affect the the paint finish on the window unit.

Ultrex fiberglass from Marvin expands and contracts at the same rate as glass, which is very minimal. Likewise, fiberglass is 8x stronger than vinyl and 3x stronger than vinyl/wood composites. The biggest benefit to a Marvin Fiberglass window is the very minimal movement the product will undergo during temperature changes, leading to better long term performance.
