Two Movies that have strong messages of how to be happy or unhappy this coming year


HACKSAW RIDGE
...War is horrible, but this movie tells the true story of man who served the Lord in wartime without  bending from his convictions despite personal persecution...a true hero. Mel Gibson and his team directed this wonderful movie that my grandson Noah labeled as the most inspirational movie he has ever seen. Andrew Garfield (the actor) definitely deserves Oscar consideration.

FENCES
...Depicts black America in the 1950's and some common weaknesses especially in men not being faithful husbands and positive role models as fathers. Denzel Washington and Viola Davis did outstanding acting performances worthy of strong Oscar consideration.( The movie depicted some of my life having come from a broken home 4 times)


HOW DO THESE MOVIES HAVE APPLICATION TO OUR LIVES?


As I watched the two movies they each affected me differently. Both are important as I approach 2017...

Hacksaw Ridge inspired me to forsake political correctness and stand for God's will for my life- to multiply the Gospel of Jesus Christ...

Bottom line: 
We are to be
MEN AND WOMEN OF CONVICTION


Fences brought back sober and sad memories of my environment growing up in small towns. Throughout my life I saw how Godless husbands and fathers failed miserably. Growing up we were very poor but I often witnessed hard working men be good providers but sometimes become alcoholics, mean spirited and adulterous.

Bottom line: 
LEFT TO DO OUR OWN THING 
without guidance from the scriptures...
self will, alcohol, drugs and living for the moment will destroy us.
The "Eat, Drink, and Be Merry" philosophy will bring out the worst in us and our society.

BITTERNESS and or EMPTINESS may abound in the pursuit of happiness

 
2017 Encouragement


HERE'S THE GOOD NEWS IN 2017...

There is a Happy New Year ahead if you and I...

LIVE FOR CHRIST our Savior and Lord...
who is the way, truth and the life

We will please Him by our devotion to the Word of God as our guide to life...if needed to get back on track read the Psalms daily for comfort, Proverbs for wisdom and the New Testament to grow in grace and knowledge of Jesus Christ


Take a stand, 
compelled by love, 
in the name of Jesus, 
wherever we walk as 
husbands, wives, fathers, mothers, and grandparents...
IT'S THE KIND OF MODELING 
desperately needed in 
AMERICA
 
 
ABUNDANT LIVING in our lives in our daily walk and conversations is gained as we get outside of self  
...first by our thoughts,
 and by our meaningful questions, 
and by our listening, 
and by our love, 
and by our boldness to proclaim Jesus in a world 
that needs to hear the Good News of a SAVIOR from all our sins
 


CAN WE HANDLE THIS "SELFISH" CHALLENGE?

Realize how we have been so selfish to worry more about what people will think of us if we proclaim by testimony our faith in Christ...it is so much 
more important for the people we encounter to hear how they can have salvation of their souls and become free from the burden of our sins of thought, word and deed... 
so as we proclaim Jesus as our Savior from our sins...the joy
of sharing with people the Good News
-no matter what they think of us- 
is the high calling we have as believers
 

HAPPY OR UNHAPPY NEW YEAR

..."LIVING FOR GOD WITH CONVICTION IS INSPIRATIONAL and DEEPLY MEANINGFUL

..."LIVING FOR SELF WITHOUT GOD IS DEPRESSING"
(as an atheist that was my life...it had nothing to do with my economic status...that has varied from very poor to upper middle class)


The Good News in 2017

2017...HE has PLANS for us...to PROSPER, give HOPE and a FUTURE....
