From Our Director
Habitat Gala - The Best Party of the Year (and so much more)
For most of the year, we are swinging hammers, pricing treasures and educating future homeowners. On one special night, however, we party like rock stars! We often raise enough contributions to fund an entire home. Our signature fundraising event, the
Habitat Gala, will be held at the Pinehurst Members Club.
It is an elegant evening of filet mignon, cocktails, music and dancing. During the cocktail hour, guests mingle and bid on beautifully bundled silent auction items from local partners and the evening culminates with an energetic and entertaining live auction led by professional auctioneer, Benjamin Farrell. Maybe you will score a week at the beach in a beautiful home for you and your extended family or maybe a private scotch-tasting party that includes live Broadway tunes. You are guaranteed to find something you like at this event.
If you prefer the kind of gala where you stay in your pj’s and eat pizza, we’ve got you covered! You can support this evening from the comfort of your home by purchasing a
$50 raffle ticket for a Charleston Getaway
weekend or you can bid on our silent auction items before the gala and throughout the night of March 28th.

This year, we will celebrate the expansion of our affiliate and the many ways we are growing and improving our work. We will also take time to celebrate a special homeowner who is making her own mark in our community as a newly elected councilmember. Gala tickets are still available, but they are selling fast, so please contact our office immediately. Tickets are $150/person.

Habitat Newcomers
Did You know?
Every third Saturday at 10:00 am Habitat has an orientation for volunteers
, donors, or anyone who is interested in learning more about Sandhills Habitat history, our success stories, and opportunites for becoming more engaged with the mission. Habitat has almost 100 "Hardcore" volunteers who come out at least once a week to volunteer on the build site in construction or at the ReStore helping with merchandising all the treasures that are collected for resale. Over two thousand volunteer hours are needed just to build a Habitat home and thousands more in the ReStore to generate revenue for the materials. Whether you can volunteer once, once a month or a couple times a week, you are the key to our success and ability to give local families a hand up by providing a guaranteed afforable mortage.

We were fortunate to have lunch with our Muffin Mommas last month to share stories and recipes! Some of our volunteers have been serving for over 20 years! We also welcomed two new members to the group! Thank you to these kind ladies who feed us!
Can you help feed the crew once a month? We need bakers for Friday shifts. Send us a message or call us (910) 295-1934

Dobbins Heights Revitalization
Improving the Quality of Life
|
|
|
Habitat and the residents of Dobbins Heights are still going strong in their efforts to improve the community’s overall quality of life. At the start of 2020, Habitat and Dobbins Heights volunteers performed much needed front and rear step replacements and pressure washing of several elderly residents’ homes on Dale Peterkin Street and Goodwin Avenue.
|
|
Dobbins Heights volunteers are gearing up for a number of large community cleanup projects, handicap ramp installations and porch repairs scheduled for spring and summer 2020, and planning is already underway for 2020-2021 Dobbins Heights Neighborhood Revitalization projects. Habitat is also in the very early stages of engaging a number of other communities in Richmond County that have expressed interest in a Neighborhood Revitalization program for their community.

We have an exciting new partnership with Hunter Hess who recently opened “It’s Art for Art Sake” in Old Town Pinehurst. Several beautiful and some unusual art pieces from our ReStore have been consigned to Hunter. In fact, his store’s very first sale was a wonderful, small, authentic Remington statue of “The Cheyenne” from the Restore. Works from several local artists is for sale there. The shop is located at 105 Cherokee Road, Suite 1F.

Habitat Repair Team
Success Stories
After clearing overgrowth from the front of Mrs. Ray’s home in Carthage, we removed two unsafe porches. Thanks to Team Rubicon for two full days (and 2 full dumpsters) to help prep site for repairs. Volunteers, led by Rick Ford, added a set of stairs to the only other usable exit to the home and replaced her front porch. She now has two safe entries to her home.
In Hamlet we replaced the back stairs for Mr. and Mrs. Page who have been waiting a long time. Thanks to our Moore county volunteers for their work on this extra project!
