Whether you're a seasoned expert or just starting to explore the realm of proteomics, volunteering on HUPO's Council offers numerous benefits including opportunities to foster collaborations, establish connections and gain insights into governance, leadership and the proteomics community. Each of which can offer valuable information to bring back to your own organization.
HUPO is seeking candidates to serve on the HUPO Council for a three-year term beginning January 2025 (2025-2027). Each Councilor must be an active (paid) HUPO member who is a scientist from the public or private sector with professional experience in educational, research, or commercial activities related to the purposes of HUPO. To encourage a diverse representation on the HUPO Council, in 2017 Council removed the clause that requires Councilors to have at least ten years of professional experience.
Details will be sent soon to all members through a direct communication. For more information, please contact the HUPO Nominations and Elections Committee (NEC) Chair Aleksandra Nita-Lazar, the Co-chair Si Wu or the HUPO Office.

Nautilus Biotechnology is the brainchild of US HUPO 2023 Gilbert S. Omenn Computational Proteomics Award recipient, Stanford Professor, and professional magician Parag Mallick Ph. D. Frustrated by the inability of current tools to accessibly and comprehensively measure the proteome, Parag set out to make an entirely new way to do proteomics. Parag’s out-of-the-box thinking resulted in Protein Identification by Short-epitope Mapping (PrISM), the methodology that now underpins the proteome-decoding capabilities of our single-molecule proteome analysis platform.
At US HUPO 2024, we presented data showcasing our progress on the development of the NautilusTM Proteome Analysis Platform. The data demonstrates the exquisite protein decoding sensitivity of the platform as well as its ability to quantify mixtures of proteoforms via single-molecule analysis. The seminar room was packed (see photo above), and attendees noted the presentation opened their minds to the incredible potential of the platform. If you didn’t get a chance to attend the seminar, we’ve made all the information presented available through our recent Labroots webinar.
We are incredibly excited to work with you as we prepare to roll out this entirely new way to measure the proteome. Please contact us to learn more about the platform.
We’d also love for you to listen, review, and comment on our Translating Proteomics podcast. By engaging with the podcast, you can help shape our vision for a new era of proteomics. Chat with us and help us bring the magic of proteomics to researchers everywhere.

Yansheng Liu, USA
What is your current position and location?
I am an Associate Professor in the Department of Pharmacology at Yale University School of Medicine, located in New Haven, Connecticut. My lab, however, is situated at the Yale Cancer Biology Institute on the Yale West Campus in West Haven, which is about a 15-minute drive from New Haven.
How did you get started in the field of proteomics?
I began my journey in proteomics in 2005 as a Ph.D. student at the Shanghai Institutes for Biological Sciences, Chinese Academy of Sciences. My Ph.D. lab, led by Dr. Rong Zeng, was one of the earliest proteomics laboratories in China. I was fortunate to work with one of the first Orbitrap mass spectrometers. My dissertation was entitled 'Cancer biomarker discovery based on multiplexed quantitative proteomic strategies.' After earning my Ph.D., I joined Dr. Ruedi Aebersold’s lab at ETH Zurich as a postdoc, where I further specialized in DIA-MS and continued my research in the field. So next year will mark my 20th anniversary in proteomics!!
