Greetings! It is hard to believe that Fall is already here. Looking back at the past 18 months, we have certainly seen many changes in our shelter and the community. As we continue to navigate this new landscape, one thing has remained consistent. Teamwork. The act of coming together to face challenges, solve problems and bring positive change.  Here at the shelter, things haven’t been normal. We have missed guests buzzing through the adoption halls making incredible connections. We have missed seeing you at Bark in the Park Festival and other community events. And we missed having one on one conversations, hosting tours and showing you how your gifts have made a real difference in the lives of animals at HSLM.  I would like to share how your generosity helped fragile kittens get the chance at life they deserved.  Back in the Spring of 2021, we shared that we would be buying a new incubator for the shelter. Our RVTs and Animal Health team brought the idea as a gap in their ability to provide top care for animals in need. After discussions with Operations and the mounting numbers of kittens entering the shelter, it was clear that an incubator was just the tool to help us. , having your loyal support is the foundation that allows us to attack these problems head-on. Your gifts pave the way for us to continue to upgrade our infrastructure, research and pilot new ideas and provide the best care that we can to the animals who need it most.  The moment the incubator was plugged in, it became the hub of health in the RVT office. Kittens were consistently moved into the incubator to monitor their health, increase their body temperature or protect them in a safe environment. Some of our senior cats with urinary issues also spent time in the incubator to better adjust their temperatures and expedite healing.  (Left to right; Animal Health Coordinator Amanda, RVT Matt, RVT Erin, Executive Director Steve Ryall) The incubator was putting in overtime, and we saw how great the benefits were to animals. This led to the conversation, should we purchase another? The clear answer from Animal Health was that a second incubator would absolutely be of use with over 150 kittens being born in our care. On September 1, we hosted a matching donation day, and thanks to our donors, we successfully fundraised enough dollars to purchase and install a second incubator! “An incubator is something that I have wanted for a while and now getting two in six months is pretty incredible!” says RVT, Matt “the incubator has already helped so many animals, giving them comfort and safety during their time of need.”  Teamwork. Together, we are the difference makers. You are part of this HSLM team. You are the lifeline that allows us to continue pushing forward and making improvements. You are the catalyst for change in the lives of these animals. They depend on us to provide the structure, but they rely on you to provide the hope, and we thank you for continuing to help animals at Humane Society London & Middlesex.
