Macy's masses were biopsied for Cytology to determine whether the tumors were benign or malignant. She was also prescribed pain management medication and antibiotics to keep her comfortable and free of infection.
Awaiting test results for HSLM animals is always a difficult and emotional experience for the entire team, as we develop strong bonds with each of the animals and feel their pain as we navigate their health concerns.
We were all able to breath a sigh of relief three days later when the tests reported that the masses were benign! The plan forward was a surgical procedure to remove the masses which would allow Macy relief from pain and eventually the opportunity to be adopted.
Following surgery, Macy was recovering nicely in the care of the HSLM Animal Health Team when there was a set back. Macy's wound site that she was surrendered with had reopened. Thankfully HSLM's RVT acted quickly in getting Macy back to the Vet, and the wound was able to be repaired. The Vet noted that if this wound had not been re-treated within this short time frame that it would likely have gotten considerably worse.
Macy is now ready to be adopted and begin the next chapter of her life with her new family!
