Senior Internship

Senior Internship participants shared their experiences with a faculty panel this week and, again, highlighted some fantastic opportunities that they were able to experience as part of this program. Seniors spent three weeks in an employment-based setting learning about potential careers they are interested in. Through the Cleveland Clinic, students worked in HVAC, graphic design, non-profit management, education, electrical, nursing home health care, and surgical procedures! We are grateful to our many community partners who helped provide these authentic experiences to students and help them solidify their post-secondary plans!

CCP: End of Year Information

Please be aware of the following information regarding the end-of-year responsibilities for students who have participated in the College Credit Plus program this school year. This information is essential, and failure to adhere to these requirements may result in levied fees and denied access to future courses.

  • Return all spring CCP textbooks to the high school—The books you received for your spring semester courses are the school district's property. When you have completed your final exams, you must return your books to Mrs. Colbaugh in the high school media center. Please return all books by Friday, May 17th, to ensure processing is done.

  • Meet with/contact your high school counselor for summer and fall semester course authorization. Before registering for your summer or fall semester courses with your college advisor, you must meet with/contact your assigned high school counselor to approve those courses and credits. Note: this does not apply to current seniors! The last day for summer/fall course approvals prior to summer break is Tuesday, June 4th.

  • Check the media center for required textbooks BEFORE purchasing them from your institution. The media center has an extensive collection of used books for many of the courses you will take. You are required to fill out the "CCP Book "eeds" form by "clicking here. This will allow our media center specialists to identify which required textbooks we have in stock. You must check with the media center for textbooks BEFORE purchasing them from your institution. If we do not have the required textbooks, then you may purchase them through the institution via their CCP purchasing policy.

Please be advised that if you do not complete the form and purchase books from a college bookstore that are in stock in the media center, you will need to return them to the college bookstore and check out the available copies in the media center. DO NOT PURCHASE ANY TEXTBOOKS WITH A PERSONAL CREDIT CARD, CHECK OR CASH! The district will not provide a reimbursement should personal funds be used.

Tuesday, June 4th, is the last day to check for textbooks in the media center before summer break.

If you have questions, please contact your school counselor in the Guidance Office!

OST Scores to be Shared via Email

Please be aware that students have received results from the spring administration of Ohio State Tests for Social Studies, Science, and Math courses. We are proud to share that, once again, BBHHS students excelled in these tested subject areas. We anticipate these scores placing us once again as one of the top-performing schools in the State of Ohio on the Performance Index measure that considers not only your passage rate but also how many students perform above average competency levels. Teachers have begun discussing students' results with them and sharing options for potential final exam exemptions.

ELA II scores are scheduled to be released on May 20th. Teachers will receive the scores, and they will discuss students' scores and options for a potential final waiver with them directly after the results are posted.

Student scores will be emailed to students and parents the week of May 20th. Individual family reports will be provided to families next fall, as score reports are traditionally not delivered to schools until July. Once you receive your child's scores, if you have questions about their results or options for a final waiver, please contact the appropriate teacher or your child's assigned school counselor.

Final Exam Waiver Opportunity

We are excited to share that the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School faculty and administration have once again adjusted final exam requirements for courses that already include an end-of-course assessment structure. Students will have the option to waive the required final exam for courses where significant data points are already available to teachers, students, and families.   Students will also still be given the opportunity to take the final exam for any course if they and the teacher agree that it is in the student’s best interest to demonstrate achievement and learning. We believe this change will positively impact students and reduce their time spent preparing for exams where sufficient evidence of learning exists.

Courses Eligible for Final Exam Waiver Include:

  • All College Board Advanced Placement courses
  • College Credit Plus English 1020
  • College Credit Plus Calculus 2023

Ohio State Test-Assessed Courses (EOCs)

  • Block, Academic, and Algebra I Lab
  • Block, Academic English Language Arts 10, and Honors American Lit
  • Block, Academic Geometry, and Honors Geometry
  • Academic Biology and Honors Biology
  • Academic Government and Honors American Government
  • Academic American History and Honors Academic History

Advanced Placement and CCP Course Final Exam Waiver Structure

  • Students must take the Advanced Placement exam for the associated course
  • Students must be on track to earn a C or better for the final grade in the course
  • Agree that the 4th quarter grade is “carried over” and factored into the student's final grade
  • Students will have the opportunity to take a final exam at their request during the regularly scheduled exam period for the course*

Ohio State Test-Assessed Courses

Students taking courses with an Ohio State Test component can also waive the final exam requirement. To ensure students are well prepared for their Ohio State Test and to qualify for the final exam waiver, the student must demonstrate/agree to the following criteria for exam waiver consideration for all scheduled Ohio State Test courses:

  • Students must take the Ohio State Test as scheduled for the associated course
  • Students must be on track to earn a C or better for the final grade in the course
  • Students must earn a score of a 5, 4, 3, or 2 on their Ohio State Exam (students scoring a 1 must take the scheduled exam)

Students will have the following options to select from to determine their final exam grade:

  • Tie Final Exam grade tied to the earned EOC score (5-A, 4-B, 3-C, 2-D, 1-must take final)

-or-

  • 4th Quarter Grade Extends to Final Exam grade
  • Students will have the opportunity to take a final exam at their request during the regularly scheduled exam period for the course*
