Mr. Cole Announces Retirement

A well respected member of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School Social Studies Department, Mr. Dathan Cole, has announced his retirement from Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School. Mr. Cole had originally intended to retire at the conclusion of the 2022-2023 school year but due to personal reasons has elected to begin his retirement effective Monday, October 31st.

Mr. Cole was in his thirty-second year of teaching overall, and has taught Economics, Advanced Placement Economics, and various other courses within the Social Studies Department at BBHHS since the building opened in 1997 and previously taught courses at Brecksville-Broadview Heights Middle School.

Mr. Cole was recently honored with the Harvard Business School of Northeast Ohio’s Samuel H. Elliott Educator Award. The Samuel H. Elliott Educator Award recognizes K-12 teachers for outstanding accomplishments in helping students develop an increased understanding of the free enterprise system and ethical business management. Mr. Cole

The faculty and students of Brecksville-Broadview Heights City Schools have developed a great fondness for Mr. Cole over his illustrious career as a Bee.  He was consistently recognized for his passion for students and his enthusiastic teaching style.  We wish to thank him for his many of years of service to the students and families of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights City School District. We also wish him a long and happy retirement!

The district has already begun the search for his replacement and will work to fill the vacancy created with a qualified candidate as soon as possible.

Important Information for the Class of 2023

November 1st is often an important date in the college application process as it marks many universities' first application deadline date.  To help accommodate students completing their applications by this date, the BBHHS staff will be reducing assigned work and planned assessments next weekend for members of the Class of 2023.  Please consider following the suggested guidelines below to make your application process as stress-free as possible:

College Application Steps

  • Complete College Application: Students will complete their college applications online—either through the Common Application website (if the college is a member) or the individual universities'  websites.

  • Request Transcripts: All colleges require an official high school transcript. A Transcript Request Form must be electronically submitted once for each college once you’ve applied. The student’s college counselor will submit transcripts and other supporting materials electronically once the Transcript Request Form is received.

Transcript request forms must be submitted ten (10) working days

before a college or scholarship application deadline.

  • Send Test Scores: Students must request ACT and SAT scores directly from the testing company. Counselors cannot send official test scores to the colleges.

Pieces of your application will arrive at the admissions office in various stages and not all simultaneously. Do not panic if you receive a postcard or email indicating that the college has not yet received your high school transcript or other items.  Maintain contact with your school counselor; remember they are there to assist you and want to see you enrolled in your targeted school.

Parent Teacher Conferences

On Thursday, November 10th Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School will host Parent Teacher Conference evening. This year, we will again offer both virtual and in-person meeting options for families wishing to meet with BBHHS staff regarding their child's academic progress.

Parent conference meetings are scheduled to be 15 minutes in length for both virtual and in-person meetings. Virtual meetings will take place from 4:00-5:30 p.m., and in-person meetings will be held from 5:30-7:00 p.m. Drop-ins will be permitted from 6:30-7:00 p.m. It is strongly recommended that you make an appointment if wishing to meet with a specific teacher and check their availability before dropping in.

Student Absence Procedures

With cold and flu season now beginning, we wanted to provide a reminder for parents and students on the procedures for reporting absences and for leaving school for scheduled appointments. We hope that the downloadable graphic provided below can make the process less confusing and smooth for all involved. If you have questions about how to best report an absence or to schedule an appointment for your child, please contact our Attendance Secretary, Mrs. Jane Mutch, at 440-740-4715.

Senior Internship Assistance

Each year Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School offers graduating students an opportunity to complete a three-week career internship experience instead of traditional school attendance.  The program provides valuable career exploration experience and helps students as they begin to transition to post-secondary educational endeavors.   We are pleased to once again offer this three-week internship opportunity to the Class of 2023.

Our internship program rapidly grew until the Covid-19 pandemic dramatically altered available partnerships.  Since Covid-19 restrictions are lessened and many companies are returning to more traditional office settings, we are looking to increase available student internship opportunities for the Class of '23.  We are seeking intern host sites willing to accept Brecksville-Broadview Heights students for our May internship period starting May 8, 2023, and concluding May 25, 2023.  If you would be interested in hosting a BBHHS student for this opportunity, please contact Mrs. Randi Borosh to discuss being a potential internship host.  We are excited to learn about your company and how we can connect our students with you!

Electrify Your Strings!

What do the Trans-Siberian Orchestra, the Brecksville-Broadview Heights School District, and October 29th, 2022, have in common? The answer is a super-hot music education program called, “Electrify Your Symphony,” which will take the stage in October, featuring nearly 200 orchestra kids rocking out with instruments in hand. It is on Saturday, October 29, at the Middle School. We will be selling tickets soon for $25 for adults and $15 for kids aged 6-18.
