College Credit Plus Informational Meeting

Any student interested in participating in the College Credit Plus program for the 2024-2025 school year is strongly encouraged to attend this meeting on Monday, January 29th, starting at 7:00 PM in the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School auditorium.

Attending this meeting is invaluable for both new and current CCP students and will help ensure that students and their families have a clear understanding of the rules, requirements, and policies needed to take a CCP course. In addition, the required intent to participate form and the completion of the transcript request form will be modeled and completed for all attendees during the presentation, saving valuable time for families.

If you are unable to attend this meeting in person, you may access it via our live stream link and digital recording at the link provided here. Please contact Mr. Kyle Drypolcher in the high school counseling office if you have any questions regarding CCP Night.

BBHHS Second Quarter Academic Recognition

Our students continue to demonstrate a commitment to learning and academic achievement. We wish to congratulate those students who have been recognized as members of the Honor Roll or Merit Roll for the Second Quarter. In order to be awarded Honor Roll status, a student must achieve a grade point average of 3.75 or better; Merit Roll status is awarded to students who achieve a grade point average of 3.00 to 3.749. A grade of D, U, WF, or F in any class precludes a student from earning this academic recognition and be enrolled in a course offered at BBHHS and/or CVCC.

BBHHS Career Speaker Series Continues

The Brecksville-Broadview Career Speaker Series returned this week to BBHHS. We were excited by four employees from the Cleveland Clinic who discussed various career opportunities in the medical field with students. Students even had the opportunity to examine cell structures under the guidance of a Cytotechnologist! Pictured below are just a few images from this awesome student career opportunity!

In February, our Career Speaker Series will be focused on the field of engineering and STEM-based careers. On February 7th, during 6th & 7th period BBHHS will welcome Ms. Ciara Seitz a former student of Mr. Jakub. Ciara is the Environmental and Technology Support Superintendent at The Lubrizol Corporation.

Ciara holds a Bachelor's and Master of Science in Chemical Engineering from Cleveland State University. Over the past ten years, Ciara has made significant strides in her career at The Lubrizol Corporation. She began as an Environmental Engineering Intern, transitioned to a full-time role as an Environmental Assurance Engineer, and was later promoted to Environmental Superintendent. Most recently, she has taken on the role of Technology Support Superintendent.

In 2023, Ciara became an American Heart Association Mentor with Heart, dedicating herself to empowering the next generation of brilliant leaders and innovators in STEM careers.

Ciara is enthusiastic about fostering excitement around STEM and is committed to helping others develop and grow in their careers.

BBHHS Career Fair Returns

Last year, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School hosted our first Career Fair. The event was highly attended, and we are excited to announce that BBHHS will again be hosting our now annual Career Fair on April 11th, 2024, from 9:00 am to 1:15 pm.

This event provides a unique opportunity for students to explore various professions by visiting employers and company representatives to discuss the educational pathways, employment outlook, and financial benefits of entering select professions when entering the workforce. We hope to attract a wide variety of company representation to participate in this event and to engage with our students at this very meaningful career exploration event.

We invite parents, grandparents, and community members who are passionate about their career fields to participate and introduce their company and career to our student body. You can have a table to share insights into your career field, experiences, educational pathway, and future growth. Your valuable contribution will help inspire and guide the next generation. We are looking for all career fields, don’t be shy we have a variety of students looking to discover your field and the opportunities that exist.

Details:

If you're interested in being a part of this enriching experience and contributing to the career development of our students, please contact Randi Borosh by March 14th, 2024.

Attendance Policy at BBHHS

Attendance at school is one of the most important factors in our students’ education. We understand illnesses occur, and emergency life events take place, and when these events occur, they are a priority. However, consistent attendance and timely arrival to school are vital to healthy academic and social growth for our students.

Schools are required by Ohio law to notify families when a student has become “excessively absent” or “habitually truant.” These classifications are different, but both have a potential negative impact on the academic and/or social growth of your child.

Excessively absent means a student has been absent for 65 hours in the school year or 38 hours in one month. These hours can be for both excused or unexcused reasons. Once a student reaches either the threshold it may be why the student is struggling in school academically and/or socially.

Habitual truancy means a student has unexcused absences for 72 hours in a school year or 42 hours in one month. An absence Intervention team will be assigned to your child, and a plan created in partnership with the guardian, student, and school team will be created and implemented to increase school attendance. Typically, a student will reach the excessive absence threshold well before they will become habitual truant.

In the next several weeks, if your child meets either of these attendance thresholds, you will receive a notification letter outlining the absences and a potential invitation to a meeting to outline the creation of an attendance intervention assistance plan.

Please remember that we are required to notify families, regardless of whether the absences are excused or unexcused, as both types of absence count toward the state-defined threshold. We greatly appreciate your assistance with helping to communicate to our students the importance of consistent school attendance. We greatly appreciate your support and involvement in your child's education.

Support SADD Club

Our SADD Club has had an outstanding level of support for their used clothing drive. Due to the success of the campaign and continued interest of students and community, we are offering one more day of collection for gently used clothing. Please do not miss the opportunity to clean out your closet and to support Common Threads, a local organization committed to providing quality clothing to those in need in the greater Cleveland area while also supporting sustainability efforts through the reduction of waste. Thank you for your generosity and support of our SADD students as they work to improve the lives of thousands of households across Northeast Ohio.

Student Visionaries of The Year Candidates

Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School is excited to participate again in the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society Student Visionary of the Year student leadership program this year. This will be our fourth year participating in this program. To date, Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School has helped to raise over $150,000.00, benefitting the mission of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society.

This year, our candidate team, Team Compass, consists of Ella Rundo, Kayla Kosla, and Gabby Gawlik. Team Compass and their team members will represent BBHHS in this regional campaign as they compete with 40 other area schools participating in the fundraising competition.

Team Compass held their first event this past Thursday evening and Broadview Brewing Company. Thank you to the many BBHHS families who came and supported this very worthy campaign! Some of the team's future organized events are outlined below. If you are interested in supporting Team Compass or learning more about their campaign, you can reach them at llsteamcompass@gmail.com or follow them on Facebook and Instagram @llsteamcompass.
