EEOC Releases Updated

"Know Your Rights" Poster

The Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) released an updated "Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal" poster on 10/19/22.

The law requires an employer to post a notice describing the federal laws prohibiting job discrimination based on race, color, sex (including pregnancy and related conditions, sexual orientation, or gender identity), national origin, religion, age (40 and older), equal pay, disability or genetic information (including family medical history or genetic tests or services), and retaliation for filing a charge, reasonably opposing discrimination, or participating in a discrimination lawsuit, investigation, or proceeding.

The “Know Your Rights: Workplace Discrimination is Illegal” poster summarizes these laws and explains how employees or applicants can file a complaint if they believe that they have experienced discrimination.

The poster should be placed in a conspicuous location in the workplace where notices to applicants and employees are customarily posted.

*This poster is included with the All-In-One 2023 poster

ordered through HR Advantage*

Visit the EEOC website to download the poster.

Form I-9 Expires on October 31st

Employers should continue using the Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, after its expiration date of Oct. 31, 2022 until further notice.

DHS will publish a Federal Register notice to announce the new version of the Form I-9 once it becomes available.

Employee Paid Time Off for Voting

Many employees will be casting their vote on or before Nov. 8, but will they have time to vote? Missouri law gives employees the right to take time off work, without fear of retaliation, for the civic responsibility of voting.

In Missouri, employees may take up to three hours off from work to vote unless the polls are open for three nonworking hours before or after the employee's work shift. For example, if the employee gets off work (normally) at 5 pm and the polls close at 7 pm, they may need one hour of paid time off to allow for three hours to vote, supposing that the lines are too long for them to take care of voting after 5 p.m. If the employee feels he needs the extra hour to accomplish voting, the employer should provide it.

The employer may specify the three hours that the employee may take off for voting. An employee taking time off to vote must request such time off before Election Day. Time off for voting must be paid.
