FIU is excited to host the university’s fourth annual Juneteenth Celebration!
Under the theme “Celebrate, Educate, Heal”, this weeklong celebration brings together FIU students, faculty, staff, retirees, our alumni and the South Florida community, to bring awareness to the importance of Juneteenth in American history.
Our annual Freedom Day Celebration will be held on Saturday, June 15 from 1 to 5 p.m. at the Earlene and Albert Dotson Pavilion at the Modesto A. Maidique Campus. This free event is open to the entire community and will feature live performances, local artisan vendors, activities, dancers, food trucks and fun for the whole family. Be sure to bring lawn chairs and mats for outdoor lounging.
Don't forget to register to attend! The first 200 faculty and staff to register will each receive a $15 food voucher to use at any of the event’s food trucks, limited to ONE (1) voucher per faculty or staff member. Join us in reading Think Again: The Power of Knowing What You Don't Know, where author Adam Grant weaves together research and storytelling to help us build the intellectual and emotional muscle we need to stay curious enough about the world.
Intelligence is usually seen as the ability to think and learn, but in a rapidly changing world, there's another set of cognitive skills that might matter more: the ability to rethink and unlearn.
In our daily lives, too many of us favor the comfort of conviction over the discomfort of doubt. Intelligence is no cure, and it can even be a curse where being good at thinking can make us worse at rethinking. The brighter we are, the blinder to our own limitations we can become. Organizational psychologist Adam Grant is an expert on opening other people's minds - and our own.
Think Again: The Power of Knowing What you Don't Know reveals that we don't have to believe everything we think or internalize everything we feel. It's an invitation to let go of views that are no longer serving us well and prize mental flexibility over foolish consistency. If knowledge is power, knowing what we don't know is wisdom.
Panther's Thrive is a place to connect, learn and unlearn, and grow together.
Don't forget to register! Those who register by Friday, June 14, will be entered into a chance drawing where 5 winners will receive a free book copy.

Channel your inner mindfulness with the OEA's mini-summer Sound Bath Meditation Program.
These in-person sessions use different aspects of sound to improve an individual's emotional and physical well-being. This practice, which is deeply rooted in ancient cultures, has gained scientific recognition and is used in modern wellness practices.
A sound bath is a deeply immersive, full body listening experience that intentionally uses sound to invite gentle yet powerful, therapeutic and restorative processes to nurture your mind and body. Growing research suggests that when used in a directed way, sound can help us reduce stress and promote our own healing. Register today to explore a new avenue to cultivating a healthy and harmonious mind.
Sign up ahead of time to participate in the offered sessions below located in Modesto A. Maidique's Green Library, room 320:
- Thursday, July 11 at 12 p.m.
