FIU, designated as a University of Distinction in Environmental Resilience by the Florida Board of Governors, strives to be a leader in sustainability. In response to requests from faculty and staff, beginning today, Monday, August 29, food vendors will remove all plastic straws, cup lids, and bags from the dining counters, and will make them available only upon request.
The Plastics If You Ask initiative is the first step along a strategic pathway toward a plastic-free campus. With your support FIU can become the first university in South Florida to eliminate unnecessary plastics. We encourage everyone to join the Plastics If You Ask initiative to protect our waterways and our health.
We thank our partners: the Faculty Senate, FIU Business Services, Student Government, and Green Campus Initiative, who together with Chartwells, and Pepsi/Vending are leading FIU toward eliminating unnecessary single-use plastics.
Questions? Contact the Task Force for Reducing Plastics.

Many FIU faculty and staff are shipping items abroad to support members of the international FIU community. Current U.S. Government Export Control regulations require that certain international shipments be institutionally reviewed to determine federal export authorization (license) requirements. All international shipments now require an export control attestation by the shipper and/or review by the Office of Export Controls.
Visit the Export Controls website for detailed instructions prior to shipping any items internationally.
