GU Public Health Updates
Georgetown community members who will be on campus after the Thanksgiving break will need to get tested upon their return to campus, regardless of whether they have traveled or remained in the local area. Non-residential students, faculty and staff need to test within 5 days of their return to campus (within 3 days for residential students). Schedule your free test on campus via the One Medical mobile app or website.
On-campus booster shot clinics for students, faculty and staff will be held on Friday, December 3, 1:00 - 7:00 p.m., and Saturday, December 4, 10:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m. at the Faculty Club in the Leavey Center (across from the patio leading to the Hariri Building). Please register in advance. After getting a booster shot, please upload documentation of this dose via the GU360 mobile app or GU360 website.
As a reminder, all students, faculty and staff on one of Georgetown’s campuses or in a University-owned or operated building in the United States, and teleworking employees, must be fully vaccinated against COVID-19, or have an approved medical or religious exemption. For the Spring 2022 semester, students who are newly enrolled, coming to campus for the first time or returning from leave, and faculty and staff who are newly hired or did not teach or work for Georgetown during the fall 2021 semester, must submit documentation showing they are fully vaccinated or apply for a medical or religious exemption by Friday, December 3.
New Stories
One of the most coveted real-world experiences for Georgetown medical students is the opportunity to serve others and learn clinical skills through the HOYA Clinic, the first student-run free clinic in Washington, D.C. Cassie Bronson (G’22), a U.S. Navy veteran, is in her last year of the Doctor of Nursing Practice program at the School of Nursing & Health Studies, an experience that allows her to combine her clinical, advocacy and research interests as she prepares to serve veterans and current members of the military.
In an unexpected discovery, researchers led by Charbel Moussa, MBBS, PhD, have identified what appears to be a significant vascular defect in patients with moderately severe Parkinson’s disease. The finding could help explain an earlier outcome of the same study, in which the drug nilotinib was able to halt motor and non-motor (cognition and quality of life) decline in the long term.
As part of a regular feature in GUMC Update, we highlight members of our staff/AAP — all critical to our mission. Today, meet Vanessa Taylor Georgiadis, administrative assistant in the School of Nursing & Health Studies.
