ADEPT and POINT Studies Meeting
The ADEPT Study seeks to create a learning health system which integrates diagnostic error and process assessments into existing quality and safety programs, shares data, infrastructure, and expertise to catalyze improvement in diagnostic performance, and lays the groundwork for efforts which will last beyond the duration of the grant.
The POINT Study is concerned with the transfer of patients from one acute care hospital to another and the potential harms that come to patients during that process. The study aims to develop a consensus definition of "potentially inappropriate inter-hospital transfer" as well as assess the incidence and patient safety impacts of these occurrences and develop prevention methods.
Participants from both studies came together to socialize and learn about the immense progress made by the ADEPT and POINT studies. During the meeting, participants shared their collective wisdom as it relates to both the psychological safety and sustainability of the adjudication process and their vision for future HOMERuN collaborative endeavors.

Hospital Medicine Division Chiefs Meeting
The HOMERuN Executive Committee met with chiefs of hospital medicine at SHM Converge to discuss the academic HM survey and development of a pragmatic trials research network.
The goals of the academic HM annual survey session were to:
- Review recent analyses of last year's first annual survey of academic HM programs, especially correlations between structural elements of participating programs and outcomes such as sustainability, promotion, turnover, and burnout
- Describe proposed changes to the survey for this coming year
- Solicit feedback regarding reactions to the results, actionable next steps, and changes to the survey
There was robust discussion, which was led by Dr. Jeffrey Schnipper and hospital medicine fellows Afifah Khan and Sharmila Tilak.
The pragmatic trials discussion was led by Dr. Sunil Kripalani and included Drs. Andy Auerbach and Lana Wahid. The group discussed:
- Preliminary results of a survey on research capacity in HM programs
- Collaboration among several "research ready" sites to develop and conduct a pragmatic trial answering a clinical question important in hospitalist practice.
- Opportunities for sites that are still developing research capacity to participate and learn from the collaborative.
To celebrate the collaboration among our team members, Alan Kubey and Andy Auerbach planned an informal social happy hour.
