Present a poster on Capitol Hill, explore "Dawn and Doom" and get help sprucing up that resume.  There's a lot happening in our community of scholars.

Present your research on Capitol Hill

Longing to visit Washington D.C.?  Would you like to talk with your representatives about the importance of undergraduate research?

Tungare (on the left) shared research she was doing in the Lab of Renewable Resources Engineering.

Honors students have an exciting opportunity to travel to our nation's capital for a poster session on Capitol Hill.

While this is competitive, several Purdue Honors College students have presented.

You could be next!

A special "THANK YOU" to all students, faculty and staff for a great Parent/Family Weekend

We had more than 250  visitors passing through our Honors home.  The Friday visit began with a update and talk by Dean Rhonda Phillips, continued with snacks and conversation, and wrapped up with tours of the new Honors College and Residences.  Our guests also got a chance to meet the faculty and staff members who are supporting their students.

On Sunday, we also welcomed a special guest to the Honors Hall, Mr. Anthony Cawdron from the Hospitality and Tourism Department.

Originally from England, Cawdron has served many notable guests, including the royal family.

He now manages the Purdue president's estate of Westwood and regularly teaches students dining and business etiquette. According to Cawdron, students may come into the experience thinking they will never need to know proper etiquette for a three-course dinner, but often write him later saying it helped them land a job, or feel more comfortable when presented with a formal situation.

This video clip is from several years ago, but serves as a great introduction to Cawdron and his skill set.

He will be back for another Honors Etiquette Dinner on Nov. 13.

You can also sign up for the Oct. 23 session, with Veronica Rahim of the Center for Career Opportunities. Watch the calendar for the RSVP link.

Dawn or Doom '16 conference and book discussion

It sounds like a haunted house or horror film.  In reality, this two-day Purdue conference is an exploration of the risks and rewards of future technology.  Is it moving faster than our ability to understand?

In conjunction with Dawn or Doom , you're invited to read The Circle and talk with the author, Dave Eggers.

Click HERE for full details and to RSVP for your free book copy.

Join us Wednesday, Oct. 5 at 10:30 a.m. in PMU 118.

The 2013 novel, The Circle, chronicles tech worker Mae Holland as she joins a powerful Internet company. It begins as an incredibly rewarding experience, but as she works there longer things start to fall apart.

The Circle will soon be a major motion picture starring Emma Watson and Tom Hanks.

Interested in studying a "critical need" language abroad?

Don't miss our Oct. 4 info session with special guest Colleen Wile of the Institute of International Education.

Boren Scholarships and Fellowships provide unique funding opportunities for U.S. undergraduate and graduate students to study less commonly taught languages in world regions critical to U.S. interests, and underrepresented in study abroad, including Africa, Asia, Central and Eastern Europe, Eurasia, Latin America, and the Middle East.

If you are interested in learning a foreign language, studying abroad, or adding an international element to your education Boren may be a good fit.
