Second-year students listen intently as a student panel speaks about gaining internship experience. |
Welcome sessions & the return of
Torch Tuesdays
Today marks the first
"
Torch Tuesday,"
a time for informal discussion and camaraderie with your faculty members and advisors. There is a new location this year-- the Windsor Dining Court. Look for us around noon at the long tables in the back right corner.
Seniors, don't forget about your upcoming "Welcome Back Night." Dean Rhonda Phillips will share all the information you need to become an honors completer. Join us Sept. 1 from 6-7 pm. Dinner will be provided, along with a motivational gift. Please
RSVP here.
Thanks to all the students who attended our other
"
Welcome Back" sessions. Second year students learned valuable internship advice from five of their peers, who hosted a Q&A session about how they found their internship positions, as well as what they took away from the experience.
- Shovik Bandyopadhyay, Biology
- Lindsey Britt, Chemistry
- Cara Koepele, Mechanical Engineering
- Ryan Schroeder, Natural resources & Environmental Science
- Erika Yohn, Mass Communication
Third year students got a boost from Dr. Kristina Bross at their "Welcome Back" gathering. The Associate Dean for Creative Endeavors dropped by to share tips on tackling your scholarly project. A curriculum change has significantly widened your options to fulfill the requirement. "What we care about is that you are creating new knowledge," Bross explained. Your project can take a variety of forms, as long as you can articulate your vision and explain how it reveals that knowledge. For example, one student completed project on rain barrels. She helped people install them in our region, then assessed their impact. Another student translated never-been-seen 1970s lectures from French into English.
You can read a full explanation of the scholarly project and submit proposals
here.

HONORS CONTRACTS
**Due Friday, SEPTEMBER 2, 5 pm**
Are you interested in earning honors credit from a non-honors course?
Honors contracts provide the opportunity to earn honors credit (and fulfill Honors College curriculum requirements) by completing honors assignments in a non-honors course. Contracts are an agreement between a student and a faculty member that allows the student to turn a standard course into an honors course. Honors contract work is part of the course grade. Honors contract proposals are submitted to the disciplinary college which is offering the course.
