Boat Dedication & Launch
of Hull High School Fleet

Hull Lifesaving Museum, in collaboration with Hull High School, invites you to an inspiring event celebrating the dedication and launch of two meticulously crafted 19-foot Stretch Gloucester Gull skiffs. This ceremony will take place on Monday, August 12, 2024, at 5:00 pm at Pemberton Pier, 173 Main St., Hull.
The boats, built by Hull High School wood-shop students under the guidance of woodshop teacher Derek Skapars and Hull Lifesaving Museum Executive Director Michael McGurl, are sponsored by Hull Pride and an MIT Sea Grant. More than just vessels, they represent a unique educational initiative aimed at expanding the Museum’s maritime programs to benefit the entire community. This project is designed to engage a wide range of participants, including veterans and individuals with developmental disabilities, fostering environmental stewardship and awareness about marine ecosystems.
We look forward to seeing you at this special event as we launch these incredible boats and celebrate the efforts of our talented students and dedicated community partners.

Join us in welcoming Laura Ludwig, Manager of the Marine Debris and Plastics Program at the Center for Coastal Studies to learn about this important initiative. Commercial fishing for lobster, finfish and shellfish is a critical economic driver for coastal communities around the world and in the 21st century virtually all commercial fishing gear is made of plastic. The Center for Coastal Studies has been collaborating with fishermen from throughout New England to address the problem of lost, abandoned, and derelict fishing gear in the marine environment.

August Adventures, inspired by Highland Street's longstanding Free Fun Fridays this initiative will offer enriching experiences for individuals, children, and families statewide. From children's museums to art, science, and history venues, there's something for everyone.
Blake Jordan, Executive Director of Highland Street, commented, "As we mark our 35th anniversary, we are thrilled to collaborate with a diverse range of institutions that enhance the cultural tapestry of our state. Our collective aim is to broaden access and welcome a wide array of visitors during August Adventures." This program spans Greater Boston to Cape Cod and across Central and Western Massachusetts.

Our Summer Adventure program is well underway through August 24. Each week includes hands-on activities, outdoor exploration, and a fun mix of history, science and arts.
(We have a number of items in the Lost and Found. If parents are missing water bottles, t-shirts, etc. they should check in with the counselors.)
There is still limited space available in August, including the extended day program. So, sign up now online to book a spot for any of the remaining program weeks.

Our Program for Youth ages 12-16!

The museum's Summer Explorer Program is an exciting and engaging opportunity for young people ages 12-16 to learn about the natural and cultural history of Boston Harbor while developing maritime skills.
This 7-week program offers a different area of focus each week with all programming originating at our HLM Windmill Point Boathouse including our fleet of open water rowing vessels, the boathouse, the harbor and harbor islands. Areas of focus include safety on the water, rowing and commanding (coxing) open water rowing craft, operating outboard powered boats, harbor piloting and navigation, marine environment, boat maintenance and boat building, while making connections to each other, to our past, and to our future.

Friday Morning En Plein Air
It's not too late to join local artists, professional & amateur alike on Friday mornings throughout the summer for En Plein Air painting around the many scenic spots in Hull.
All artists are welcome to participate, from beginners to professionals painting typically from 9am - noon. Please bring materials of your choice. A chair, hat, and water bottle are recommended.

Adult Rowing Summer Season is in Full Swing
...at Windmill Point Boathouse, Hull
Warm summer evenings are especially joyous when we take time to pause and reflect as the sun sets on our shores. Our Adult Rowing program is a fun, safe, and healthy way to experience and explore Boston Harbor.
