Walk/Run/Yoga Fundraiser: EXTENDED through October!
Hello Everyone!

We're looking forward to kicking off Breast Cancer Awareness Month with our Walk/Run/Yoga fundraiser, a much-loved community event that benefits our under-served patients.

Our BIG news is that we've extended our participation period so you can now complete your virtual 5k walk or 5k/10k run any time between September 25 and October 31.

We'll get the fun and fundraising rolling on Saturday, September 25 with our only in-person component of this fundraising effort -- a limited-registration outdoor kick off in Pleasanton. Guests will enjoy a Bollywood dance warm up with Shameem, a dynamic stretch, a delicious boxed breakfast, and generous giveaway bags thanks to sponsors and donors like Renee Huber (State Farm Insurance) and Ron Sutton (Accusplit). Full details are on our registration page. Masks will be required.

Can't join us in person? We'll live stream our kick off via our YouTube channel from 9 am to 11 am.

And remember: once our live streamed in-person gathering ends, registrants are welcome to complete their 5k walk or 5k/10k run where and when they wish through October 31.
Registrants will receive, by mail, a commemorative bib as well as a white paper dove made with love by Melody, a dedicated HERS volunteer.

Every registrant (including pets!) will also be eligible to win prizes. That's right -- we're virtual so you can bring your pet along. No need to leave your fur baby at home. Pet registration is just $10!
Prefer Yoga? We're offering Zoom classes!

Enjoy Yoga with Sherri Plaza Saturday, September 25 or Yoga with Anjali on Saturday, October 16. Zoom links will be emailed once registration is completed.

Be sure to post your walk, run or yoga pics and tag @hersbreastcancerfoundation (Facebook) and @hers_bcfoundation (Instagram).

So, let's go! Register today!

October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month
Partnering with community groups and businesses for Breast Cancer Awareness Month (BCAM) helps share HERS program info and raise funds in support of our under-served patients. Our supporters' energy and creative fundraising ideas never fail to amaze us!

Past BCAM fundraisers include Premier Nissan and Premier Subaru of Fremont and Premier Nissan of San Jose Giving Hope Fundraising, RAGE Soccer of Pleasanton activities, Lisa Stambaugh's quirky BCAM Chickens, and #PinkPatchProject participation by many local law enforcement agency employees, including members of the City of Fremont Police Department.

We'll update our calendar regularly and be sure to follow us on Facebook or Instagram for updates.

And if you're inspired to raise funds for HERS patients, let's talk! Call (510) 790-1911 or email your fundraising ideas. We look forward to connecting!

Staff Member Highlight: Muirgheal Forro
Muirgheal (pronounced "myur-yel") joined our team in 2019 and serves as our Administrative Assistant and Social Media Manager. She was seeking employment with a sense of purpose and peer connections, and has certainly found both at HERS!

Experience at a care giving agency, chiropractic office, and social services developed her expertise in networking and recruiting, staffing and scheduling, social media management, and language interpretation. Muirgheal's fluency in Tagalog and her hometown dialects -- Hiligaynon and Karay-a -- puts our Filipino-language patients at ease.

Outside of HERS, Muirgheal's days are filled with parenting a very active 4-year-old, visiting Bay Area restaurants with her family, and finding vintage and thrifted pieces for her home. She also enjoys exploring visual arts such as photography, film, and modern art, visiting museums, and traveling. Muirgheal is also a very talented freelance portrait, wedding, and product photographer. Next time you visit our Fremont location, be sure to say hello to Muirgheal!

Volunteer Spotlight: Janice & Doug Florence
Janice Florence’s motto is that she isn’t a solo volunteer -- her whole family gets involved!

Janice discovered HERS in 2010 through friend and then-Board member Sue Bove. Janice knew immediately that she wanted to be a part of an organization alongside "smart, interesting, and passionate women." Over the past 11-plus years, Janice, her husband Doug, their daughters, and sons-in-law have supported HERS via community outreach, attending events (and helping with event prep!), and so much more.

Her drive to support breast cancer patients is personal; Janice's mother underwent a radical mastectomy in 1965 and then struggled to find a prosthesis and bras. Janice knows her mother would have loved HERS and therefore volunteers in her memory.

Janice and her family serve, too, because they're passionate about community outreach and love to give back. Janice also appreciates feeling valued by HERS staff and Board members. When not volunteering, Janice and Doug enjoy getting together with family and friends, going for walks, and savoring their retirement.

Thank you, Janice, Doug, and family for supporting our mission and patients!
