The City is pleased to announce the finalization of approvals and contracts for the redevelopment of the City-owned 18.7-acre tract at SH 121 and Industrial Blvd. StreetLevel Investments and Dickerson Development will transform the former CampusWest/6 Stones Mission Network site into a vibrant mixed-use development. The property closing is set for this fall, with underground infrastructure construction to follow.

StreetLevel Investments will spearhead the development of The Market at Gateway, a retail center featuring a 23,442 sq. ft. anchor building, two 10,500 sq. ft. retail/restaurant spaces, and an 18,000 sq. ft. public plaza. Concurrently, Dickerson Development, in partnership with David Weekley Homes, will build 106 townhomes as part of the Gateway Village residential community. Homes will face public streets or greenspaces, and a trail system will connect residential and commercial areas.

On August 13, 2024, the Bedford City Council approved a rezoning request for Murray Kustom Rods. This approval paves the way for the high-end custom automobile engineering and restoration service to relocate from Fort Worth to 1916 Parkwood Dr., next to Texas Harley Davidson. Owner Heath Murray aims to make the business a destination, with renovations underway and plans to open within six months.

Meanwhile, at the northwest corner of SH 183/121 and Central Dr., construction is progressing on a new Bojangles, 151 Coffee, and Andy’s Frozen Custard. The former Cheddar’s restaurant has been demolished, and with underground utility work complete, buildings are going vertical. Opening announcements will be shared soon!

NEW OPENINGS & ANNOUNCEMENTS HIGHLIGHT ACTIVITY IN EULESS

Several new restaurants have recently opened in Glade Parks, including Dancin’ Beans Café, the renovated Dave and Buster’s, and Euless’ second location of Salad and Go. Glade Parks will also be home to several other new restaurants that are in the tenant finish-out stage of construction. These include The Iced Whisk, Home of Juicy Dumplings, The Peach Cobbler Factory, and Tifa Chocolate & Gelato. New restaurants in Euless include The Brass Tap in the Shops at Vineyard Village and Captain D’s on East Airport Freeway near Main Street. Over the past three years, more than 30 new restaurants have opened in Euless.

Construction continues at a brisk pace throughout the City on a variety of projects, including the 6 Stones Mission Network’s new campus (grand opening scheduled for early September), Watercolor mixed-use planned development at State Highways 183 and 360, Watercolor Urban Lofts (Bear Creek Parkway & E. Airport Freeway), Cambria Hotel on East Airport Freeway near Watercolor, HTeaO on North Main Street, and the city’s second Raising Cane’s location on South Industrial Boulevard. Construction on the DFW International Airport’s East-West Connector project is well underway with Phase I projected for completion next summer. The 1.5-mile roadway will extend eastward from East Harwood Road at State Highway 360 to Rental Car Center Drive.

Projects in the permitting stage of development include the 123,000 square foot HEB Grocery Store at Rio Grande Boulevard and Cheek-Sparger Road. The location will include a fuel station, car wash, and drive-thru pharmacy. A site plan is currently under review for the development of two additional retail tenant buildings on the vacant lots just north of Piada Italian Street Food in Glade Parks. The two buildings have reportedly been pre-leased to retail tenants and at least two yet-to-be announced restaurants. Other projects in the review process include a 106-guest room Atwell Suites Hotel and Conference Center in Watercolor and a 114-guest room Holiday Inn Express Hotel near the intersection of East Harwood Road and State Highway 360.

Finally, the long-vacant building constructed for a Walk On’s Sports Bistreaux location in Glade Parks is the new home of Cold Beers and Cheeseburgers, an Arizona-based regional sports bar restaurant chain. The Euless location is their first in Texas and first to be located outside of Arizona. A late summer/early fall opening is planned.

HURST SEES BUSINESS GROWTH & COMMUNITY SUCCESS

During the second quarter of 2024, Hurst businesses recorded an impressive 7,446,500 visits. The City welcomed 44 new Certificate of Occupancy applications, with a variety of businesses—including law firms, restaurants, salons, retail stores, and medical offices—filling vacancies in strip centers and stand-alone buildings. Notably, The Westland Group purchased Pulido’s, which is now undergoing renovations, while a long-vacant Jack in the Box is being transformed into Juicy’s Soul Food.

In May, Hurst participated in Lemonade Day, a nationwide program empowering youth to learn business skills by running their own lemonade stands. Girl Scout Troop 1333 partnered with O’Reilly Auto Parts, raising $333 for 6 Stones Mission Network and earning three Junior Girl Scouts their Entrepreneur Merit Badges and Bronze Award for volunteer hours.

After the January closure of Kelly Moore Paints, Hurst celebrated GPS Paints' purchase of the 337,000-square-foot facility, retaining many former employees and ensuring continued production in the renovated plant.

Hurst Economic Development, along with Bedford and the HEB Chamber, attended the 2024 International Council of Shopping Centers conference, exploring development opportunities. Housing remains a key focus, particularly on the 4-acre site next to Pulido’s on Precinct Line Rd. and along Highway 10, where residential infill projects are underway.
