Veterans Mission of Mercy Hosts Free Dental Clinic

HCAN staff recently had the opportunity to volunteer for Veterans Mission of Mercy Dental Clinic. The Nebraska Dental Foundation sponsored Veterans Mission of Mercy (VetMOM) for a free dental clinic for Veterans at the Titan Army National Guard Readiness Center in Yutan,NE. The Nebraska dental community and members of veterans organizations volunteered their time to provide free dental care to those who have served our country.

Partners included UNMC College of Dentistry, Creighton College of Dentistry, the Nebraska Department of Veterans Affairs, Nebraska National Guard and the DHHS Office of Oral Health. 325 vets were served during this 2-day event and over $385,000 of dental care was provided.

Only 15% of veterans enrolled in Department of Veterans Affairs health care are eligible for dental benefits. The number of veterans actually receiving VA dental care is much lower—about 35% of those who are eligible - or 5% of all veterans.

Tuesday December 5th, 9:00am-12:15pm (Central)

Wednesday December 6th, 9:00am-12:15pm (Central)

Registration is now open for the Virtual UDS Training on December 5^th and 6^th hosted by the Iowa Primary Care Association. Registration will cost $85/person.

Registrants will receive a calendar invite in their confirmation email as a calendar hold, and a Zoom link will be sent in mid-October.

National Dental Hygiene Month

October is National Dental Hygiene Month, a time to celebrate the work of dental hygienists everywhere and raise awareness about the importance of keeping our teeth and gums clean and healthy!

Cybersecurity Month

October is also Cybersecurity Month! Cyber threats can be scary, so be prepared by knowing how to deal with cyber-attacks, and how to be safe online. This is the 20th Cybersecurity Awareness Month and it has grown into a collaborative effort between government and industry to enhance cybersecurity awareness, encourage actions by the public to reduce online risk and generated discussion on cyber threats on a national and global scale.

I love getting to build relationships with people that are passionate about healthcare access for all.

On the weekend, I am usually out working in my garden, with my chickens, or out on the lake with my family.  

What is your favorite vacation spot?:

I love to go camping, especially in the fall at all of the local state parks.
