Sam Frederickson, HCA Class of 2018

Mr. Sam Dyrud served, for many years, as the chair of the Heritage Christian Academy Board of Trustees. Sam is grandpa to 3 current Heritage students and father to current Heritage Christian Academy Board of Trustees chair, Mr. Philip Dyrud. Thank you to Sam for serving on HCA's 40th Anniversary celebration planning team. Each member of the planning team is interviewing Heritage Christian Academy alumni to get a glimpse of what Heritage grads are doing since high school graduation. Mr. Dyrud interviewed 2018 graduate Sam Frederickson as he was busy returning to college. Part of the conversation between the two "Sams" is below:

SAM DYRUD: Tell us your story.
SAM FREDERICKSON: I was born and raised in Plymouth. I attended Catholic schools up until high school. Entering 9th grade is when I began my time at HCA. My faith only grew stronger while at Heritage, where I was surrounded by friends and faculty who shared in their pursuit of relationship with the Lord. I can truthfully say my four years at Heritage were the best of my life. I met friends who have turned into true brothers, mentors whom I can approach anytime, and was able to grow in many areas of my life.
SAM DYRUD: What are you doing now?
SAM FREDERICKSON:  I am currently a senior at The College of Saint Benedict and Saint John’s University studying Global Business and Leadership. I had the excellent opportunity to be a part of the Sales and Management Internship Program at Sherwin-Williams over the summer. I gained valuable experience in the fields of management and sales. In addition, I enjoy fishing, golf, and volunteering in any way I am able at my parish, Holy Name of Jesus in Medina.
SAM DYRUD: How did Heritage impact you?
SAM FREDERICKSON: Heritage impacted me in many ways. Most importantly, I was challenged in my faith by various faculty members and students, which helped me become the man I am today. One of my favorite aspects of Heritage was the size. Being able to recognize the majority of students, from the youngest up to the oldest, was a true blessing. We, as students, were able to see the different seasons of life everyday and be reminded of where we are on our journey to help keep us moving towards our own goals. Heritage is an excellent place to attend, and will always be one of the best decisions I have made.
SAM DYRUD: What are some of the ways God has shown his faithfulness to you?
SAM FREDERICKSON: The Lord has been ever faithful to me, and with age comes the knowledge of where He has been not only presently, but in the past as well. One of the biggest ways I have seen this in my life is through peace. Most of the time, this peace comes from a firm trust in who He is and His steadfast faithfulness. No matter the circumstances I find myself in, the Lord’s peace is always available. In addition, we have the knowledge of the Lord’s mercy, knowing we can always return to Him, and He will be faithful. 2 Thessalonians 3:3 states “The Lord is faithful. He will establish you and guard you against the evil one.” I have seen this reign true throughout my life.
SAM DYRUD: Favorite HCA memory?
SAM FREDERICKSON: Okay, this is a difficult question, as I do not believe I am able to nail down one singular memory as my favorite. Rather, there is an extensive list of different memories in which I will cherish. Some of these include our men’s basketball team making it to the State Tournament for the first time in school history my senior year and being able to play at Williams Arena. Another would be also from my senior year, when our baseball team finally “broke the curse” of the section finals game and advanced to the State Tournament, playing at Target Field, and defeating Sleepy Eye to become state champions. Along with these, some of my favorite memories are with the friends I mentioned earlier, who became true brothers of mine whom I will stay close with for the rest of my life. God blessed me tremendously throughout my time at HCA in so, so many ways, and I will forever be grateful for my time spent there.
