The Lowdown with Lori
Leaf Peepin’ by car, bicycle, motorcycle, and YES, of course a horse!

It’s officially October, which means fall is in full swing and the perfect time to leaf peep as the colors are starting to pop, pop, pop! You will see an array of leaves change into an explosion of colors as the leaves slowly move from green to a mixture of yellow, orange, red and even purple hues; leading to one of nature’s most stunning views that almost looks like a picture-perfect painting.

Leaf peeping is the perfect excuse to book a weekend getaway this Autumn, Georgetown, KY is the perfect addition to your fall foliage tour! Throughout the month of October and early November, Georgetown’s beautiful winding country roads turn in to a kaleidoscope, you can view the beauty by bicycle, motorcycle, or car. To make it easy, Georgetown/Scott County Tourism has put together a listing of favorite colorful routes.

To leaf peep the most natural way, schedule a horseback ride at Whispering Woods Riding Stable and enjoy the trails along wooded hills, creek crossings, and the countryside. You may even see a few critters along the way. Or take a stroll around one of Georgetown’s most popular parks, the Yuko-En Garden on the Elkhorn featuring Japanese landscaping. The Garden is the official Kentucky Friendship Garden celebrating our Sister City Tahara, Japan. Admiring the autumn leaves, or Momijigari (“Momiji” means red leaves and “Gari” means hunting), is a custom that has been practiced for centuries in Japan and we are happy to share our little piece of Tahara with you.

While you are out leaf peeping, I suggest making a few stops along the way by checking out some family fun activities; a corn maze, an apple orchard, pumpkin patch, or a local restaurant.

It’s the perfect fall adventure!
