Grover Gazette
Message From the City Manager
Greetings City of Grover Beach,

Last month, I described this time as extraordinary for all of us given the global health crisis, economic downturn and societal unrest. Our City has continued to take concrete steps in addressing these areas, including scheduling a discussion this fall on diversity and inclusion in our community, carrying out a business microgrant program to support local businesses in this time of need and adopting a balanced City budget that provides essential community services. There was also a growing sense of optimism that we had finally turned the corner on COVID-19 as we celebrated our nation’s birthday just a few weeks ago.

The worsening COVID-19 picture, both statewide and countywide, has changed that outlook. This reality was punctuated by the State’s order last week to close most in-person activities and business operations and require distance learning for schools in most counties, including ours. This was a blow to all of us as our community tries to find a semblance of normalcy in a time that we know is anything but normal.

As discouraging as this is, this is now a moment for all of us to show leadership in our community. Leadership does not require a title and can come from anyone with a mission to help others in a time of need. Leadership has been shown in our community by residents setting up an online group to help each other with distance learning, by businesses helping each other adapt and persevere in these difficult times, and by a City Council taking steps to expand affordable housing and repair our streets to continue building a better community.

For 60 years, the City of Grover Beach has been committed to serving our community in good times and bad. Your City government is here for you as we all show our leadership in helping Grover Beach through this moment in the spirit of #GBtogether. Let us know how we can help at or (805) 473-4550.

Staff Spotlight
Emily Fisher
Administrative Assistant II
Emily works in the Administrative Services Department and has been a wonderful addition to the City staff team. She is one of the first people that customers hear from or talk with and makes sure to provide the best service to everyone.  Her tenure began in December 2019 and was soon impacted by COVID-19 where she is the primary employee responding to phone calls and emails to the City during our current closure. Despite this, Emily has worked diligently to smooth City customer concerns by relaying changing COVID-19 information, conveying options to customers for paying utility bills and setting up water service for individuals, all while continuing to maintain an upbeat, positive and caring attitude.
Emily is a native and resident of Grover Beach and a graduate of San Francisco State University with a B.A. in Criminal Justice. Emily comes to the City with excellent customer service experience as she was previously employed with Marriott Hotels. Emily is also always willing to help in any situation and has demonstrated her creative talents and baking skills. The City is proud to have Emily as a “face” of Grover Beach in these challenging times for all of us.
