Greetings from Muskingum President Sue Hasseler
September 2017
Welcome to the new academic year! Our Fall 2017 semester is off to a great start, with new and returning students, faculty, and staff bringing their enthusiasm and energy to the exciting learning experiences that define a Muskingum education.
WELCOMING THE CLASS OF 2021

The Class of 2021 kicked off their time at Muskingum with a fun-filled Welcome Weekend which acclimated them to their new campus and college life.  This year's events featured a Day of Service when members of our new class engaged with our neighbors and completed volunteer projects at more than 15 locations throughout New Concord, Zanesville, Cambridge, and surrounding areas.

We formally began the academic year with our traditional Opening Convocation
ceremony. This year's keynote speaker, Ohio State Senator Troy Balderson, encouraged the class to embrace new challenges: "In today's world, a college degree will reveal countless doors of opportunity to you as you move forward in life.  But a Muskingum University education is special - it will teach you how to open those doors, how to walk through them, and how to keep them open for others." Now in his second term, Senator Balderson represents Ohio's 20th District. He attended Muskingum as well as The Ohio State University.
FACULTY RECOGNITION

The University's highest faculty honors were presented during the Opening Convocation ceremony:
  • Associate Professor of English Dr. Amanda Adams received the William Rainey Harper Award for Outstanding Scholarship
  • Professor of Theatre Dr. Diane Rao received the William Oxley Thompson Award for Excellence in Teaching
  • Associate Professor of Geology Dr. Stephen Van Horn received the Cora I. Orr Faculty Service Award.
HALLMARKS OF EXCELLENCE

For the second year in row, 100% of our 2017 Nursing graduates passed the National Council Licensure Exam for registered nurses on their first attempt. Very few nursing programs in the country achieve this goal in any given year, and we are exceptionally proud of our students and faculty for repeating this milestone! Our nursing program is accredited through the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (CCNE) and offers both the pre-licensure BSN degree program  and an online RN-to-BSN degree-completion option.

One of our newest academic programs on campus, the Athletic Training Program, has received initial accreditation from the Commission for the Accreditation of Athletic Training Education (CAATE). Our first group of Athletic Training graduates, from the Class of 2017, will sit for their national licensure this fall. Students in this highly competitive program must complete challenging coursework and a series of clinical experience rotations with Muskie athletic teams and regional school districts and healthcare providers.
SPOTLIGHT ON OUR STUDENT-ATHLETES

Congratulations to Joshua Keyes '17, who
