A Summer of Resilience

Well, it's been a rough summer for many here in the Northeast Kingdom. In the last month, there have been two severe flooding incidents affecting Burke, Lyndonville and other NEK towns. Roads got washed away, homes were lost, businesses were devastated. If you were affected by the flooding or would like to help those affected, CLICK HERE for a list of resources and ways to donate or volunteer.

Meanwhile, most of the area is still open for business and an easy way to help is to visit, support our local businesses and just enjoy & explore Burke and Beyond.

Parks & Rec News

Lots of good news to share from this neck of the woods.

Congrats to Kingdom Trails on being awarded a Vermont Outdoor Recreation Economic Collaborative (VOREC) Community Grant for $74,927 to support inclusive mountain bike programming in partnership with the Kingdom East School District (KESD), Unlikely Riders, and POWERED Magazine!

KT was one of 51 new recipients for grants to boost outdoor recreation across Vermont, totaling $6.3 million! Northwoods Stewardship Center and Friends of Dog Mountain also received grant funding.

The State of Vermont just acquired 118 acres on Wheeler Mountain that will now be part of the Willoughby State Forest. The acquisition permanently secures public access to popular hiking trails and rock climbing areas.

Powers Park received a grant from the VT Community Development Program to create a plan to upgrade the park including making it more accessible to those with mobility challenges. The 18 acre park is home to a swimming pool, basketball court, tennis courts, pump track and more. They are currently seeking assistance from the public to make the plan a reality.
