Holiday Coat Drive

Webb, Stokes & Sparks partnered with Rust Street Ministries this holiday season for a Winter Coat Drive. The coat drive was a success! Over 500 coats were collected for those citizens in San Angelo who needed a free warm winter coat. Rust Street Directors David Ingram and Juan Gomez coordinated the coat drive with the Firm’s Associates Jason Sosa and Grant Emmons. The drive was held in the Firm’s parking lot where Attorneys and Staff handed out hot chocolate and candy canes to all who donated. It was a beautiful day to give back to the San Angelo Community.

Keep Fighting!

In the last quarter of the year Webb, Stokes & Sparks Attorneys did not mail it in. Our clients were more than satisfied with the outcomes of their cases because of the teamwork which is a hallmark of the Firm. One such result was achieved by Firm Partner Carlos Rodriguez and new associate Jason Sosa against an insurance company in a car wreck case. The Firm announced ready for trial to fight for their client’s justice. After a half day of hearings over an “emergency continuance” by defense counsel, the Firm was successful in settling the case for over the policy limits! Now, the client can move on with her life with the help she needs to continue in her Nursing career. Webb, Stokes & Sparks values all our clients and we won’t back down. We will work together to get our clients story heard!

Calculating Damages

The recent opinion in a wrongful death case Gregory v. Chohan has left questions about the amount of noneconomic damages which can be recovered in an injury or death case. Examples of Noneconomic damages would include for injury cases mental anguish, pain and suffering, and loss of physical ability and in wrongful death cases the loss of love, society and companionship and mental anguish caused to the family by the death. Our attorneys representing injured parties are active in establishing how to keep on appeal hard-fought noneconomic damages for our clients.

What we do know is, to get and keep noneconomic damages, we must provide evidence of the nature, duration and severity for these claims to support the client’s loss and establish a rational connection between the injury suffered and the amount awarded. The jury must get a clear sense of how long the injuries have impacted the client’s life and how those injuries will impact the client’s life in the future. The law in this area is still developing but at Webb, Stokes & Sparks we will work with our clients to establish this evidence and present it to the jury so that all damage awards will be paid.

Employee Milestones

We want to start the year off by highlighting two of our most tenured employees here at Webb, Stokes & Sparks: Christy Burrage and Lora Narvid. Both are integral team members and part of the foundation of the Firm with Christy a Litigation Paralegal and Lora a Pre-Litigation Paralegal. Both have seen the firm through some of its historic verdicts, community events, and growth into a new era. Combined, Christy and Lora bring 90 years of experience to the Webb, Stokes & Sparks family. Christy and Lora are invaluable to helping the Firm seek Justice for our clients.

Lincoln Middle School Career Fair

Associate, Grant Emmons, participated in the Lincoln Middle School career fair where he was able to share his journey on becoming an attorney to over three hundred 8th grade students. After the presentations, students were able to ask questions about the legal profession and what they should focus on when transitioning into high school to pursue the legal field.

The career fair was a great success for the students and one of the many ways we get to inspire the next generation.
