Baccalaureate, Commencement Ceremonies

to Celebrate the Class of 2024 this Weekend!

As the academic year nears its conclusion, we at Greensboro College stand on the brink of a joyous occasion: our upcoming Baccalaureate and Commencement Ceremonies are being held this Friday (6 p.m. at the Huggins Performance Center) and Saturday (at 10 a.m. on front campus, barring the enacting of our rain plan)!

These events mark the culmination of years of hard work and dedication from the Class of 2024! This ceremony is not just a symbolic ritual; it's a testament to the transformative journey each graduate has embarked upon during their time at Greensboro College.

Through the COVID-19 pandemic, late-night student sessions, games and performances, and the regular work of being a student, the Class of 2024 persevered to make it to this weekend.

Of course, with their individual stories of triumphs, no one student is an island, which is a part of the reason why we have these ceremonies, especially the Baccalaureate Cap and Gown Ceremony.

This is an opportunity for graduating students to pay respect to someone they feel has assisted them as they were completing degrees; this person can be a GC staff or faculty member, a family member, or a friend. Like Commencement, Friday evening's Baccalaureate program is an opportunity to celebrate the remarkable accomplishments of the Class of 2024.

To our graduating class of 2024, as you embark on the next phase of your journey, remember the lessons learned, the memories created, and the bonds formed within these walls. Wherever your path may lead, carry with you the spirit of Greensboro College and the knowledge that you are capable of achieving greatness.

Both events will be live-streamed so you can watch them as they are happening. They will also be recorded so you can go back and watch them. To find the link to watch both ceremonies, visit the link directly below! Together, let us honor their achievements and embrace the bright future that awaits them.

What do you enjoy the most about working at the college?

  • Working with the students and faculty in a family like setting. Small programs that make a real difference in individual’s lives.

What has been your favorite memory while at Greensboro College

  • Too many favorites for sure. But some are the creation and dedication of the Nativity Scene, watching my son (Sean Saari; Associate Professor of Theatre: Lighting and Scenic Design) graduate from the college in 2012 and working with him again since 2016. [Also], my retirement [celebration] event in December 2023 and hearing from so many alumni and seeing where they are in their professional and family lives.

What was your first professional job?

  • My first job in life was delivering newspapers in a small town age 5. Then 16 becoming an Assistant Manager of the Tower of History in Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. My first job in Theatre was working for Actor’s Theatre of Louisville as an Assistant Designer and Associate Designer.

What are some of the passions/hobbies you like to pursue outside of work?

  • Some of my passions and hobbies are traveling, being outdoors and camping, fishing, hiking… also gardening, wood working, painting, welding, and much more.

If you were stuck on a deserted island, what would be the five items you would bring?

  • Deserted island. 5 items… my solar generator and panels to power my needs and reading wants, of course tools to build something akin to Swiss Family Robinson’s Tree House, my wife, and a good boat I guess.

If you could see one musician in concert (dead or alive), who would that musician be

  • Dead or alive musicians…. Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart and Tom Petty.

What is one thing that most people do not know about you?

  • Most people do not know that I worked on Capitol Hill in the Congress for Bob Dornan, 27th District of California, Pacific Palisades to Santa Monica, while attending Georgetown University.
