Dear Montessori Families,
Welcome to Montessori! We are excited for school to begin and to dig into the play and joy that is our program. Montessori families are invited to join fellow families on the Green Hedges playground on Tuesday, August 27th from 4:00-5:30 p.m. for a Montessori Back to School Playdate. We look forward to meeting new families and welcoming back familiar faces. Additionally, please remember to sign up for Welcome Back Conferences, taking place on September 3 (12:00-4:00 p.m.) and September 4 (8:00-4:00 p.m.).
As a reminder, Montessori Kindergarten students begin on September 5, Montessori 4-year-olds begin on September 9, and Montessori 3-year-olds begin on September 11. The school day begins at 8:15 a.m. and students may be dropped off beginning at 7:45 a.m.
Students dropped off between 7:45 - 8 a.m. will go to the library. Students dropped off after 8 a.m. will go to their classrooms. Please read below for more information about arrival and dismissal.
Please remember that all 3-year-olds will be dismissed at noon on September 11 and 12. Extended Day for full-day 3-year-old students will begin on September 13.
Listed below are a few details and reminders you may find helpful as your child begins the upcoming school year:
-
Backpack: Backpacks need to be large enough to hold a lunch box, a 9”x12” folder, and a change of clothing. Students should bring their backpacks each day. Please make sure the backpacks do not have wheels.
-
Lunch and snack: Each student will bring their own snack in a container labeled "snack" that is separate from their lunch container. All snacks and lunch should be peanut and tree-nut-free due to severe nut allergies in the class. Lunch may either be brought from home or full-day students may use our lunch program, Wholesome Foods. Ordering information for Wholesome Foods will be sent prior to the first day of service, September 9.
-
Water bottle: Please send in a clearly labeled water bottle each day.
-
Indoor shoes: We require all students to wear indoor shoes in the classroom. Indoor shoes should be comfortable shoes that will be kept in their cubby for the child to change into before entering the classroom. Slippers, Crocs, or a clean pair of sneakers are acceptable indoor shoes.
-
Change of clothes: Please provide a complete change of clothes, including underwear and socks, in a large Ziplock bag labeled with your child’s name. The change of clothes will be kept in the child’s hallway cubby. This change of clothes must be promptly replaced anytime the student uses it.
-
Dress code: The GHS uniform is not required for Montessori students. The general guideline is that Montessori students wear clothing that is neat, comfortable, and easily managed. For safety reasons, closed-toe shoes with a back, or back-strap, must be worn at all times. High heels, and flip-flops are not acceptable shoes. Socks and rubber-soled shoes are required for P.E.
-
Labeling: Please remember to label all clothing with your child’s first and last name. You can write the name on a tag with a Sharpie marker or apply a name sticker.
-
Weather-appropriate clothes: We go outside in all kinds of weather, including light rain and snow. Please dress your child in seasonally appropriate clothes. Rain boots, snow boots, waterproof pants, etc. are all encouraged when necessary. Mittens are preferable to gloves.
-
Nap Items for 3 and 4-year-olds: We recommend sending in a small blanket, mini pillow, or a roll-up nap mat for students who stay full-day. All nap accessories must fit inside a 16 qt storage box.
