Don't trash it, smash it!
Composting reduces greenhouse gas emissions and returns nutrients to the soil, so bring your pumpkin to one of 22 locations in DuPage County. Find a location near you.

Did you know that the smoke detector in your home likely contains a small amount of radioactive material (AM-241)? Because of this, it is dangerous to simply throw your detector into a landfill. Check for the radioactive label on the back of the detector facing the mounting base to find out if yours is radioactive.

Bring your holiday lights to SCARCE
Trim your waste and rescue the copper wire from the light strands. SCARCE accepts holiday lights year-round. See our donation procedures and a full list of items accepted here.
Donate your artificial Christmas tree
Give your tree new life by donating it to ReStore. Your tree should have all of the pieces and not be broken or damaged.
Pay attention to packaging
Just because there's a chasing arrows symbol on a product doesn't mean it's recyclable! Most packaging isn't recyclable in your curbside bin, so try to reuse it as much as possible.
Questions? Contact SCARCE to determine if your packaging is recyclable.
