SCARCE Out & About
SCARCE team members Olivia and Emily attended the Naperville Park District Earth Day Fair. Local families had the chance to learn more about the waste stream. "Where does it go?" is so interesting!
SCARCE educator Jean celebrated Earth Day with the Wood Dale Park District. Rain or shine, or even snow, we are committed to helping people and the planet!
SCARCE Executive Director Kay joined local volunteers to collect items at a recycling event at Hinsdale Redeemer Lutheran Church.
SCARCE educator Emily gathered items at the Glendale Heights One Stop Reuse and Recycling event.
"Where is Away?" Is On The Road

This month our learning exhibit is visiting the Woodridge Library. The six foot tall interactive display lets people of all ages explore what happens when we throw something "away." Send us a photo if you stop by to investigate. We'd love to "see" you!

Did you know this exhibit travels? Contact us if you'd like to rent the display for your library. Library professionals should also contact SCARCE to RSVP for a partnership meeting (May 9 or May 17) where you can learn about resources for your library.

Coming soon: A similar interactive exhibit called Wonder About Your Water? that will be available for community use.

Protect All of Nature This Spring
The first emerging pollinators use the earliest flowers that grow in our lawns, such as violets and dandelions, as an important food source. Pollinators are critical to the eco-system. Let's welcome them to our yards!
Poisons in your yard, such as pesticides, mosquito sprays and rodenticide, are harmful to other living things, especially in the spring when food sources are scarce. Consider how you might invite other natural pest control creatures to help.

Bird Migration with BirdCast
For the next two months or so, birds will be traveling through the night to reach their warm weather homes. BirdCast is website that helps you predict which species are traveling in your area. Created and run primarily by Cornell University, Colorado State University, and UMass Amherst, BirdCast reminds us all that spring is a time to turn lights out at night so birds can safely migrate!
Check out BirdCast.
