Junior Book Awards

Congratulations to the members of the Class of 2025 pictured below who were recognized as College Book Award recipients!

Many colleges and universities across the United States partner with high schools to ceremonially award College Book Awards to exceptional high school juniors. While the criteria for the award varies from school to school, the purpose of a College Book Award is essentially the same: to recognize distinguished youth, provide the next generation of emerging leaders an opportunity to develop a broader perspective of the world, and attract high-caliber students who are likely to succeed in the college's programs.

Billerica Fire Welcomes Best Buddies

On Thursday, the Billerica Fire Department warmly welcomed students and friends of our Best Buddies club for an engaging and educational experience. The students had the opportunity to participate in a variety of activities such as navigating through a simulated smoke-filled room, operating fire hoses, cleaning the fire truck, using the jaws of life, and learning how to hoist equipment with a pulley system. The highlight of the event was a fun and friendly tug of war challenge between the students and the firefighters, which resulted in an exciting victory for the students.

Child Growth & Development Class

Ms. Tuxbury's dedication to her 48 students in the Child Development program at BMHS truly shines through as they selflessly volunteered for Math Day at Parker Elementary School. With meticulous preparation and enthusiasm, the volunteers curated engaging lessons for the twelve math interactive stations in the Parker Gym, creating a vibrant learning environment for the k-3 graders. The joy and fulfillment they experienced while facilitating these math activities is a testament to their passion for education and community service. The event's success was further highlighted by the exceptional management of Parker staff members Kathleen Cochran and Jen Dulong-Tringale. This collaborative effort not only fostered a love for math but also showcased the power of teamwork and dedication in making a positive impact on young minds.

Summer Reading

Dear Parents, Caregivers, and Students Entering Grades 8- 12:

As the 2023-2024 school year comes to an end, BMHS is once again promoting our Summer Reading program. Each spring, BMHS staff members choose books to read with students over the summer. Students will sign up to read a book before the school year ends, read the book over the summer, and then participate in book discussion groups next September. Students will also be expected to fill out a guiding questions note sheet and complete a written assessment during the first weeks of school next year. This program is designed to encourage the development of literacy skills and to foster a love of reading in all students.

Attached below, please find a more detailed letter to parents and students, the guiding questions note sheet, a list of books in Google Slides and Google Sheets, and the student sign up form. If you have any questions regarding this program, its requirements, or the directions, please email Ms. Jessica Camasso at jcamasso@billericak12.com.

Thank you, happy reading, and happy summer!

A round of applause for Ms. McDermott! 🎶✨ It's music to our ears hearing about the fantastic concert she organized for the residents of Billerica Housing. From Monday to Tuesday, the three Housing sites were filled with harmonious melodies and joyful tunes. Ms. McDermott's dedication and planning truly struck a chord with everyone, and her choirs brought a symphony of smiles to all. Just like a well-composed piece, the sense of community among her students was truly awe-inspiring. Bravo to Ms. McDermott and her talented choirs for spreading the gift of music and unity! 🎵👏

BMHS made the Special Olympics Massachusetts Newsletter!

From The Desk Of The Billerica Memorial High School's School Counseling Department

The BMHS School Counseling Department will be offering The Common Application Boot Camp Seminar for students on Thursday, August 1st and Thursday, August 8th. The program will begin at 8:00 a.m. and will conclude by 11:00 a.m. Although the program will run both days, the second day will be a repeat of the first day’s information. Therefore, you only need to attend one session. If you are planning to apply to a four-year college, you should make every effort to attend one of these seminars. Students do not need to register for the seminar.

YOU MUST BRING YOUR CHROME BOOK!

During College Boot Camp, students will have the opportunity to:

  • Create their Common Application profile and complete several portions of the application.
  • Touch on key points related to college essay
  • Create an account for Billerica Dollars for Scholars and begin filling out the application

In addition, students will learn how to:

  • Request transcripts from their counselor through Naviance
  • Request letters of recommendation electronically from their teachers
  • Link their Common App and their Naviance profile
  • Add schools to their Naviance profile to track their applications
  • Log college acceptance status information
  • Sign up through Naviance to attend virtual college visits hosted by BMHS

Here are the details:

Where: The BMHS Auditorium

You WILL need access to your Naviance account. Before the College Boot Camp, please make sure that you know how to access your Naviance account. If you need assistance, please email your school counselor and we will send you a link to reset your password.

If you have any additional questions, please contact your school counselor

**This program is offered as a complement to our Senior Year School Counseling Curriculum. As in previous years, school counselors will continue to meet with their students early in their senior school year to review the college application process, provide individual support and instruction, and help students coordinate their applications. In addition, all seniors will be provided information to create a profile for the Billerica Dollars for Scholars program. Attending the College Boot Camp does not provide an “edge” for receiving scholarships.

Please see the family letter here for more information.  Tests are available in almost any language, and do incur a cost (starting at $20, though financial support is available for some students). Weekly & Daily Communication

As we continue to enroll new students I am rerunning this information for everyone.

Most of our communication occurs directly through our App (additional information can be found below). We have three main calendar feeds for BMHS, School, Athletics, and Fine Arts. Each Sunday evening around 8:00 p.m., the App will send out a notification that shares everything happening at BMHS for the upcoming week. The newsletter will also be sent out on Sundays, typically between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. (depending upon when the Patriots game is being played).

The App will also send out a daily notification (Monday - Friday) at 6:00 a.m. that provides the daily bell schedule (A1, A2, B1. B2) and any other events occurring that day. The morning announcements are read each day following the Pledge of Allegiance before being posted on Aspen so students and parents can access the daily announcements throughout the day.

Sunday - The Green & White Weekly (emailed and posted on Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn), BMHS App (The Week Ahead)

Daily (Monday - Friday) - BMHS App (events occurring that day) 6:00 a.m., Morning Announcements (7:25 a.m.) Aspen (announcements) 7:30 a.m.

If you are not receiving these announcements, please contact my secretary, Mrs. Jenkins, to make sure we have your correct email address.

BMHS App

The BMHS App provides quick access to timely news and upcoming events. It also allows the user to determine how often and what type of notifications they receive. The first page provides 9 options (not all options are available to all users). The "News" option provides a weekly overview of coming events at BMHS. There is also a daily announcement that includes the schedule rotation, meetings and other events occurring that day.

The "Events" option provides access to the BMHS Calendar, Fine Arts Calendar, and Athletics Calendar. Each of these calendars is dynamic and encompasses the entire school year.

The "My ID" is only available to students and staff.

The "Directory" provides access to all Staff emails and, if applicable, phone number.

The "Quicklinks" option provides quick access to Aspen, Athletics, Community Pass, Guidance, Clubs, Nutrition, and the BMHS Library sign up form.

"Documents" provides access to Bus Routes, Lunch Menus, Student Handbook, Program of Studies, Clubs and Athletics, and other documents.

The "Map" option provides driving directions to MVC schools and locations for school functions.

The "Language" icon allows the user to convert the app into one of 42 different languages.

The phone icon on the bottom of the home page will call our Absentee Line (978-528-8710).
