Over the course of the last week, we have been hosting our own version of March Madness pitting the top bands of the 1970s and 1980s. The seeding was created based upon album sales in each respective decade, which allowed some bands to be represented in both the 1970s and 1980s brackets. On Friday, we concluded the Sweet 16 and will begin the Elite 8 on Monday morning.
I have received feedback from some parents that the students are making incorrect choices when selecting the greatest bands from the respective decades and inquired if they could be involved as well. If you would like to participate, please follow this link to make your selections in our next round.
Voting will remain open until 1:55 p.m. and results will be shared right before dismissal.
The Schedule
Elite 8 – March 27
Final 4 – March 29
Championship – March 31

Winterguard Gets Ready for Nationals | |
|
There’s nothing like a hometown crowd. And what a crowd there was on Friday night at the Marshall Middle School for the Winter Guard Friends and Family Night. Billerica hosted teams from Medford, Reading, and Salem, NH and what a night of performances. Billerica’s show “Harmonic Breeze” made the crowd go wild. Thank you to all the students, teachers, administrators, town officials, friends and family who came out to support these amazing kids. Friday night was also a great place to acknowledge our graduating seniors and Captains, Cassie Modoono and Sarah Richard.
The team performed again Sunday in the MBDA competition in Biddeford, ME where they wowed the crowd and received a 5-star rating.
Their last local performance of the season is this Saturday, April 1st at the NESBA Finals in Salem, MA. Come cheer them on! The team leaves on April 11th to compete in the World Guard International Championships in Dayton, OH April 13th-15th with teams from all over the world.
Go Billerica!

Dear BMHS families,
Your student is invited to join us on our upcoming educational travel experiences in 2024 and 2025! When students travel, they expand their knowledge of the world around them, discover more about themselves, and grow more confident. These skills are critical for creating the global citizens of tomorrow, and we would love to have your student join us on any one of these adventures.
Come hear all the details, including the itineraries, activities, academic opportunities, the cost of the trips and more at our informational meeting on March 29 th at 7 PM. The meeting will have both an in person and virtual attendance option.
Please click here to register for the meeting ASAP in order to receive updates and the private link:

I want to let you know about an upcoming admissions event in the Boston area (Concord, MA) this Monday 27th March at 6pm (please see the attached flyer). This is a great event for students, parents, and educators to learn about West Point, what we offer, and our admissions process. I will be at the event along with our local admissions volunteers. Students may sign up using the QR code on the flyer or through this link - https://forms.office.com/r/X3dexZHhRe. Juniors are the primary audience, and it is good for any high school student to attend as they can start to prepare early by pursuing more challenging courses and leadership activities in sports and clubs during their high school career.
Also, this will be my last email for our Summer Leaders Experience (SLE) this year. Please see the attached flyer where students may sign up for SLE. SLE is a program where students stay at West point for week - like a summer camp. They eat in our mess hall, live in the barracks, complete 5 academic workshops (they can choose from our 17 academic departments), 2 military days, and they are led by West Point Cadets. SLE is specifically for current Juniors, and we offer two sessions, 3-9 June, and 10-16 June. This is a great opportunity for students to make friends, meet and interact with cadets, and have stories to tell their classmates. The deadline to apply for SLE was 15 march and we extended it until April 1st. Students may apply using the QR code on the flyer or at https://www.westpoint.edu/admissions and then clicking “apply now”.

Families who qualify for the free and reduced-price lunch program can get $50 off their monthly broadband bills, thanks to a new, emergency federal program, the U.S. Department of Education and the Federal Communications Commission emphasized in a May 12 meeting.
Low-income families living on tribal lands are eligible for an even steeper discount, $75 a month.
What’s more, students in post-secondary education who receive Pell Grants can also tap the funding. And eligible families can receive $100 in one-time help in paying for digital devices—such as laptops, tablets, and desktop computers—as long as the family contributes between $10 and $50 for the hardware.

The BMHS App provides quick access to timely news and upcoming events. It also allows the user to determine how often and what type of notifications they receive. The first page provides 9 options (not all options are available to all users). The "News" option provides a weekly overview of coming events at BMHS. Currently, this would include all school events including clubs and the Fine Arts performances. We are working on an athletic integration as well. The "Events" option provides access to the BMHS Calendar, Fine Arts Calendar, and soon to be included Athletics Calendar. Each of these calendars is dynamic and encompasses the entire school year. The "My ID" and "Hall Pass" are only available to students and staff. The "Directory" provides access to all Staff emails and, if applicable, phone number. The "Quicklinks" option provides quick access to Aspen, Athletics, Community Pass, Guidance, Clubs, Nutrition, and the BMHS Library sign up form. "Documents" provides access to Bus Routes, Lunch Menus, COVID information, and other documents. The "Map" option provides driving directions to MVC schools and locations for school functions, e.g. Blue Ocean Event Center (location of Senior Prom). The "Language" icon allows the user to convert the app into one of 42 different languages. The phone icon on the bottom of the home page will call our Absentee Line (978-528-8710).
