2024 Great and Holy Lent

“…to know Him and the power of His resurrection.”

Philippians 3:10

Beloved Holy Resurrection Family,

I am filled with deep gratitude towards our Lord for the tremendous blessings His goodness has poured forth upon us. We have so much to be thankful for as a community. Our ministries are growing. Our faithful are coming to church, and now, my beloved, the time has come to open the door of our hearts as we commence the most sacred period of the year known as Great Lent.

Lent is marked by rigorous fasting, increased prayer, and pushing ourselves a little more each day, all out of love for God. These spiritual exercises guide us closer to Christ. They help us prepare to ultimately experience the power of Christ’s resurrection. The more we put into our Lenten journey, the more profoundly we will experience the joy of Pascha. To assist you in this journey, we have a church service scheduled each day of lent. We invite you to increase your prayer life and join Prayer Team 150; to fast, even if you never did it before. To go to confession and bring peace to your soul. Simply put, give extra care to your faith and to your soul. I humbly ask you to not misuse this time of lent but to try and put in some effort.

I know that many of us are currently living through some deep suffering. Perhaps our health has faltered, our families are struggling, or our relationships have been weakened. However, know this, my beloved, no matter what life presents and no matter what we may be feeling, the power of His resurrection will shine light on our dark places. When we bring all our pains to Christ, every bit of them, He will lift them off us and give us the unwavering hope that everything fallen and hurtful in this world has been overcome by His resurrection from the dead. Join me and your brothers and sisters on this journey! Come and see and be with your spiritual family this lent. We are here to give you support and encouragement along the journey. Do not wait or hesitate. I pray that as a community we will all make the prayerful decision to make this lent more meaningful– to give it our best shot and our best effort.

Wishing you, and your loved ones, all of God’s blessings as we commence our Lenten journey, I remain

Always and forever in the Light and power of the Risen Lord,

Protopresbyter Panteleimon Papadopoulos
