Dear Academy Community,

We are reaching out to families within our community who are open to a rewarding and enriching experience hosting a student from Germany.

Staten Island Academy is proud to announce a new partnership with

Global Horizons introducing two boys joining us this September. Entering Grade 11, both students are excited about joining our Upper School and making an impact on our campus. Active in sports, seasoned travelers with their respective families and committed to seeking the challenging and personalized education for which The Academy is best known, Jacob and Johan are eager to join their new host families in late August so that they can attend pre-season practices and grade-level orientations.

Hosting an international student offers a unique opportunity to share your family's way of life, while also learning about a new culture. It is a chance to form lasting friendships and make a positive impact on a young person's life. Students coming to the United States for school are enthusiastic to experience life in our country, improve their language skills, and contribute to our community.

We are looking for two families who can provide a welcoming and supportive home environment for these students for the year, or semester if you prefer. As a host family, you will play a pivotal role in the student's experience. Your generosity and openness can provide them with a sense of family and belonging far from home. Of course, there is a monthly stipend for the host family and the students themselves are responsible for the cost of any extracurricular activities. They do not require their own bathroom; they are fine with dogs and there does not need to be another student living in the house (empty nesters and grandparents often make the best host families according to the agent we work with).

If you are interested in this exciting new opportunity or know of someone who might be, please contact us at 718-303-7803 for more information. We will guide you through the application process, set up a time for you to meet the student and his family on Zoom, and provide support with both their experienced coordinator and our own Dean of International Students.
