Lift Up STL Honors BGCSTL Youth of the Year
|
The Great Forest Park Balloon Race launched the initiative "Lift Up St. Louis" to pay tribute to essential workers, educators, healthcare heroes & those standing up for change and, our very own 2020 Youth of the Year, Danielle K, was one of the honorees! She was honored as a representation of all of the inspiring youth across our area who stand up for change and help us all look toward the future with hope. Congrats to Danielle and all of the award recipients!

Community partner Deaconess Foundation is hosting free notary services for mail-in ballots at Deaconess Center for Child Well-Being. Local notaries will be on the campus of Deaconess Center to notarize mail-in ballots at no charge to voters on the following days:
Wednesday, October 14 (11:00 am – 2:00 pm)
Thursday, October 22 (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm)
Monday, October 26 (3:00 pm – 6:00 pm)

St. Louis Internship Program Application Open Plus FREE ACT Prep & More

FREE ACT HELP!! Are you prepared to take the ACT? If not, BGCSTL has partnered with the Princeton Review to offer ACT Preparation classes this fall. The Princeton Review has over 35 years of experience working with students and their families to provide innovative, best-in-class standardized test preparation. The deadline to register for the class is soon so don’t delay. You can register, here.
Join the 2021 Cohort of the St. Louis Internship Program
If you are a high school sophomore or junior with at least a 2.0 grade point average, qualify for free or reduced lunch, and are in need of preparation for the work environment and other future endeavors, we invite you to apply for the 2021 cohort of the St. Louis Internship Program. The application is available at here from October 1 – December 1, 2020.
Young Business Fellows Program
This program is for dedicated students interested in business and entrepreneurship. Students will participate in an 8-week program to create, build, and refine their business on Wednesday's after school from October of 2020 to January of 2021. In addition to receiving one-on-one coaching from a local business and entrepreneurship expert, youth will compete in front of a panel of industry professionals to round out their experience. The flyer can be shared with all interested youth, and the application can be accessed here. Please apply by October 20th.
Cybersecurity and Information Technology
This year, we are piloting a Cybersecurity and Information Technology certification program for high school students! Youth will engage with curriculum and activities aimed at learning Network foundations and Network Security curricula. The end goal will be a CompTIA Security + credential and a paid 8-week internship next summer. Fall Fairs at Herbert Hoover Club & Teen Center of Excellence
|
In celebration of the Lights On After School Day, BGCSTL Herbert Hoover Club and the Teen Center of Excellence will be hosting a fall safety and wellness fair, which will give the members an opportunity to learn and discuss important topics such as self-care, mental wellness, self -therapy, UPS Road Code safe driving techniques, addiction and bullying prevention. These topics will be paired with fun games and activities, that will leave members not only educated but excited to implement new lifestyle changes. For more information, contact 314-335-8115.

The Music Studio Program continues this month and is being offered virtually and in person at the Teen Center of Excellence, Herbert Hoover and Adams Park Clubs. Members will get a chance to write, produce and sing music as well as learn new skills. For more information, contact your Club.

BGCSTL is hosting an outdoor drive-through stress free haunted house “Tricky Trail for Treats” event for families on October 30th from 5-7 pm! We will provide families with a FUN Halloween themed map as well as pre-made candy filled bags at four of our Club locations (Adams Park, Herbert Hoover, O'Fallon Park and the Teen Center of Excellence). Members will be encouraged to dress-up for this evening of fun!

This year's St. Louis City-Wide college fair will be virtual on October 15, 2020 from 9am to 1pm. Students, parents and guests can register for the fair as well as just sign in during that day of the event during those hours. See the flyer for details and access the link, here.

The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Greater St. Louis (BGCSTL) is to inspire and enable all young people, especially those who need us most, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring citizens. For over 50 years, BGCSTL has been providing after-school, teen, sports and summer programs to youth in the St. Louis area while also providing a safe place for them to learn and grow. The Clubs serve youth across St. Louis City & County, including Adams Park Club, Hazelwood Elementary School Club, Herbert Hoover Club, O’Fallon Park Club, Riverview Gardens Club, Hazelwood Southeast Middle School Club and the Teen Center of Excellence. We also operate dropout prevention programs within two High Schools (Normandy and Roosevelt High School); as well as the Mentor St. Louis and St. Louis Internship programs.
