Critical Parks & Wildlife Meeting Regarding OHV Grant #33
Grand Junction, May 10, 2112
To our members and friends on Colorado's Western Slope: the Colorado Parks & Wildlife Commission is going to review OHV Grant #33, creating a motorized trail connector from Basalt to Gypsum. Commissioners representing environmental interests in league with anti-motorized organizations wish to kill this grant that scored in the upper 15% of all grants.
This grant was a collaboration of efforts between the White River FS Sopris District Rangers, the CBTRA and RMSR. Grant 33 benefits everyone...
ALL USER GROUPS WILL BE AFFECTED BY THE LOSS OF THIS GRANT!
Not only does it affect the possibility of a sustainable connector route between two key riding areas, but ongoing maintenance to the Basalt Mountain trail system, a new parking and staging area as well as the partnerships it develops with motorized and other user groups in the area.
This Grant has no reason not to be approved. This is the most important meeting you could attend if you recreate in the Basalt Mountain FS and Gypsum BLM areas!
- The OHV Subcommittee members and the new non-motorized members, on average, gave this grant high marks.
- The State Trails Committee reviewed and likewise recommended this grant for approval to the Commission.
- With only a couple of dissenting voices the grant was not approved at the April meeting and sent back for further study.
- The grant will be voted on at the Grand Junction Commission meeting May 10th. It is scheduled to be heard at:

10:05A.M. to 10:30A.M. presented by Gary Buffington,
