Dear Parents, Community Leaders, and Friends,
As a moderate Republican, I want to emphasize the importance of unity in maintaining our exceptional community. Cobb County boasts one of the nation's largest and highest-ranking school systems. Our focus must remain on instruction, ensuring our students excel across every testing metric and reject those who wish to push a cultural or political agenda on our students.
This November, please remember we have a choice to make: (1) To continue a trajectory of academic success or (2) select a path injecting personal political views into the classroom. It really is that simple. Our community thrives because of lower taxes, a well-managed school system, and robust partnerships, making Cobb County an ideal place to raise a family and educate our children. Brad Wheeler, Randy Scamihorn, and John Cristadoro all have pledged to keep the focus on schools on student mastery and real instructional-related issues, insisting that politics should be left at the door.
While our schools are on the path to proven success, a significant concern is on the horizon. As you know, Commission Chairwoman Lisa Cupid is proposing an $11 billion tax burden on future generations through a thirty-year M-SPLOST, a thirty-year tax that is not in our best interest. This tax scheme deserves a failing grade from voters on November 5th. Ridership on Cobb buses has been declining for years, which is evident in the empty buses on our streets. Just as we successfully opposed the "Rainfall Tax," we must stand firm against this unnecessary claim,
The claim is that it is just a penny, but those pennies accumulate to $30 billion. Those monies could be better spent on essentials like food, housing, and student supplies. It seems incredibly unfair to ask people yet to be born to shoulder such a monster tax that will very well be for an obsolete transportation system.
